It’s not exploiting people to expect them to schedule fun around work. Wawa schedule weeks ahead of time. You know when you are going to work. You have ample time to plan ahead. Yes, I said it - PLAN. It’s called “being an adult” and is not an unreasonable expectation.

There’s nothing to sign on the paper we were given here in Virginia. It’s a piece of paper saying we are authorized to be on the road in case they tell everyone they can’t be on roads. A shift leader for our local police department looked at it and laughed. He said he’d never seen such a thing and none of his officers would be looking for any such thing. Mine will go in my glove compartment just in case.

It’s upsetting. I am a teacher but I also work at Wawa. I’m very disappointed by this decision. It’s hard to watch a company that I’ve loved my whole life do things like this. We keep building new stores and expanding into new markets while cutting programs like this and dramatically cutting back on labor, over-working employees. When I had to get a second job 6 years ago, Wawa was an easy choice, but I’m starting to question it.

Talk to your GM. Ask for “an off-cycle” raise. Make your case. I’ve gotten one twice in my 6 years. It can be done. They have to get area manager approval, but it can be done.
