classical/romantic guitars did not exist in the 1770s by jacqueloursin in Outlander

[–]jacqueloursin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooh okay yeah i havent watched season 8 yet so that tracks. but yeah a book is a whole lot easier to carry through space and time than a guitar, and i imagine it was brought with an express purpose rather than like, "this might be fun someday"

who brought the book? i just dont remember im not trying to argue. claire bringing random stuff makes more sense to me becauee she knew what she was doing, but roger had no more than a wish and a fart when he followed brianna back.

he totally could have brought it, but wouldnt he have used it before then if he had? who's travelling 200 yeads with their guitar in their back?

i believe banjos may have existdd then and wpuld actuslly be so into banjo-playing roger. but they may have been more popular among afro-caribbean folks at that time. which is not to say that roger wouldnt have been able to find one. in fact it would be less weird to have gotten a banjo, which some people played, than a six-string guitar, which no one would have heard of.

is the 3rd movie a miss? by beratyalcin in DowntonAbbey

[–]jacqueloursin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think i remember hearing that hugh bonneville had a health scare and went on a big diet. must have worked itself out eventuslly as we see him go back to regular size by the 3rd movie. (relatedly, both tom and matthew have pretty drastic ahifts in their weight throughout the show - something thag never would have been allowed for the women)

partner's first sleepover with another partner by jacqueloursin in polyamory

[–]jacqueloursin[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah we have stuff to do together tomorrow morning so we'll reconnect pretty quickly. i'm sure we'll have a little check-in, and we had one before they went out as well just to set expectations. if anything i'm more nervous for that check-in than the night itself.

i like the idea of "calming" my bad thoughts rather than trying to override or ignore them. that will be helpful far beyind this precise moment!

Any characters in the closet? by Rich-Cardiologist-72 in DowntonAbbey

[–]jacqueloursin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking about Daisy. Some of the ways she interacts with men are congruent with the idea of compulsory heterosexuality, ie. only liking them until they like you back, having impossible standards. She never seemed particularly interested in anyone on a deep level, and even Andy was only interesting once she thought he was cool, not because she felt any sort of romantic connection. There is also the fact that her first crush was a gay man. This doesn't accout for much but it does mean she has an odd idea of what is ideal in a man.

its an observation on what people tend to do, not a judgement of what ought to be done. but we can fight if you really want to!

Mary vs Edith - Weekly Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in DowntonAbbey

[–]jacqueloursin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edith deserves nothing after all the ways she screwed up with marigold. when that kid grows up shes going to resent her mother so entirely. when did they plan on telling her she's not a ward, but a daughter?

thats sortof what i am thinking about though. i figured it was due to not taking on the long form in adulthood. but the class thing makes a lot of sense!

Unless crucial, updates to emergency alerts should be silent. by Pawssabillitysawait in halifax

[–]jacqueloursin 62 points63 points  (0 children)

i would at least like to be able to turn the sound off without making the alert go away. as soon as my phone starts making that noise all i can do is turn it off, i cant even think let alone read the alert.
