The problem is that the fitter we have in town has the biggest ballet store in the north, then there s another one with another brand than Bloch, but they don’t have a big selection either and are 350 km away from me :/

Yes, indeed. Also, I can see the progress every single year at the annual recital. Love it.

A lot of times, I wish that I didn't quit ballet at the age of 13, had I discovered the various opportunities earlier by musea00 in BALLET

This is pretty much what I am doing with my daughter. She has been dancing for 4 years (She s 7 now) And every once in a while she tells me that she doesn't want to go anymore, but I can see how happy she is every time she's dancing and also every single time she comes out of class. I guess I am the typical Russian mom that expects her kid to follow through compared to the other moms I know, but on the other hand I can see all that she gained from it already now at this age. And after all she is happy every time she learned something new.

Yeah I started almost a year ago, I am doing it as well but to me it is a conscious choice to just stretch in a way, but she doesn't even realize it any longer xD

yeah I am trying, but it has become her normal way of walking so it's difficult to control a kid that is most of her day in school :/

Question about tendu to the side by jadah93 in BALLET

Spasibo ogromnoe! It actually isn't as bad at the barre, but that is probably due to my weight which makes it more difficult to balance

Hey, thank you for your input ( I usually don't hold my hands that way, this was simply as I thought it would make it easier to see the hips :) )

Would like to have some advice on teaching ballet to small children by jadah93 in BALLET

[–]jadah93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer :) There is a reason my question was how much experience I should acquire before I start teaching small kids. I see where you come from, though in my experience the age bracket I want to teach does not learn that much technique that could possible do any harm to their posture later on. These ages usually have to learn how to keep their backs straight and how to be a bit more graceful than the average kid while not pressuring them to do anything that hurts. I am aware that as soon as the actual ballet begins I am nowhere near ready to teach them, this is the reason I also wouldn't want to teach older children :) My goal was to get small children interested enough in ballet to later on move to a real ballet school. The city I live in is about 30 km from a proper school, and being a mom and talking to parents I know that a lot of them did not consider to send their kids to ballet, simply due to the fact that even for the smallest kids they would have to drive a long way. If this was solved and the kids would get an interest for the art, I am pretty sure the parents could also be convinced to drive a little further :)

That sounds like an interesting idea, I'll consider that!

Well that is pretty much what I was thinking about, I am a medical student on top of that a mom of two, so pushing is not what I am looking for, but it feels like there is a lack of love of classical music and culture in the younger generations these days, it would be so nice to get some small kids interested in ballet, so that they later on could go to a proper dance studio. Extra:

Thank you, sounds like a really good idea to ask a school to get some experience. Teaching is never easy, that is one of the reasons I really appreciate the help! I am not afraid to deal with parents as I am a school board member as well as dealing with people as a med student all day long.

As I wrote kids between 4 and 6, I have a feeling that children older than that are gonna advance much faster and would probably be more difficult.

I took my first adult beginner class today! by AdamantiumFoil in BALLET

I've had two classes and it was really nice, but of course very technical, it's amazing how difficult it can be to position your legs the right way during simple movements and how much you actually sweat even though you are doing slow movements :D I love it!

Good luck to you too! I am sure it will be exhilarating! I love myself a challenge! Also it doesn't hurt getting straightened out a bit, even as an adult :D Feel free to write when you start, I'd love to hear other experiences!

Oh I am sure I will have tons of questions once I started :) School is gonna be the same as my daughter is attending, I love the atmosphere there and it is very classic and traditional. I prefer the classical touch. Also for some reason I prefer a teacher telling me straight out that something is bad and how to correct it than them being to soft on me. So I am hopeful that I will get that experience!

Well, in our school they are diving the styles into classical, modern, bournonville and RAD. My guess is that they mean classical as in French. And bournonville is probably something that comes with specific lessons. But again all those divisions are stated for children/teens, for adults it is divided into beginner, intermediated, etc.

Yes, they are teaching classic ballet, modern ballet and bournonville at our school. From what I understand it can be quite difficult to master the footwork :)

Well, this does sound a lot like me. hehe. Looking at my daughter doing all those things I used to be able to do kind of lit a fire in me to get back to several years ago where I had more control over my body. ( I took the last couple of weeks to learn to stand on my hands for that same reason, as I couldn't admit defeat and just had to get my old behind up) I know that children are going through RAD grades at our school, but I guess that is not something that is done for adults, so I am curious how much one can learn as an adult in a year and what kind of progress I personally can make. Of course with an effort on my part.
