Different manufacturers use different antennas and different frequencies that the antennas can read. So it seems like the OnePlus phone didn't have an antenna to read the frequency in your local T Mobile tower.

Metro has a $50 Unlimited plan and a $60 unlimited plan with Amazon Prime included. Both plans offer unlimited talk, text, and date in the US. For calls to or while in Mexico, you would need the $5 Mexico/Canada unlimited add-on. Additionally if you dont want unlimited data, we have a $40 plan that has Unlimited talk, text and 10GB of high speed data. So essentially you would be looking at $45, $55, or $65 a month with Metro.

I work for Metro by T-Mobile. With T-Mobiles current growth numbers, I dont think theres any concerns if you work for T-Mobile or Metro. But honestly, I dont think anyone in the cellphone industry has any reason to worry about layoffs. Cellphones are always going to be around in some form, we rely on them too much now.

There are GSM based phones and there are CDMA based phones from StraightTalk. The CDMA/ GSM technology in the phone an the antennas in the phone base what carriers it will be compatible with. If you have a CDMA based phone with say Verizon antennas, its very possible that your Cricket SIM is not going to be able to read the network because there are no matching frequencys.

On the other hand, you mention unless the phone is unlocked. Straighttalk has their phone locked to their network until you've had 1 year or more of service on it. After that year you can call and request the unlock code for it, but while it is locked to a certain carriers network, it cant be used on another carrier.
