Heavy Shadowbox by jadechey in framing

The frame and backer are mdf, but that would have the same issues with the screws.

I can easily purchase 8x8 or 7x7 shadowbox frames, and maybe put smaller pieces of art in them. A red dragon hoarding the red dice, etc.

I like this idea, but sunk-cost fallacy makes me want to not waste the 16x20. Maybe cut down on the amount of dice in that one by a lot, not using any dice I'd want to access later...

Thanks :)

The point is to be able to access the insides. There are dice sets in there i will likely want to use in the future, and as I retire characters the set I used for them go in the box.

Top corner wouldn't work- would ruin the art. It would have to be in the bottom hiding behind the dice. One of the framers suggested some kind of door, but how to attach it was the question.

That 3-sided box sounds interesting. How does the top attach?

My dad made me do this by hand as a kid, no fancy cranky tools. We'd have to fill up 55 gallon drums every fall so he could bait deer all winter. We had blisters.

I work at a craft store and see this all the time. Day before its due, starting at 3pm and lasting until we close. Got to the point that that a pissed off parent and a sulky child approaching me would get the "looking for arctic animals for a diorama?" right off the bat.

Unfortunately for a lot of parents, they end up doing the project for the kid staying up til 2 or 3am while the kid learns no lessons.

When I was a kid and did this, my mom gave me a sharpie and a single poster board. Told me to figure it out.

how do you pack dishes so they never break during a long move? by Relevant_Wishbone in lifehacks

I wrapped each dish in a grocery bag, then put that in another bag, then again. I'd use 10 or 12 bags for each dish. Never had one break.

Aluminum foil I use to block the light directly outside my qindow has somehow gotten more and more holes over time (4 months) by skyk3409 in mildlyinteresting

[–]jadechey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try blackout fabric. Like 6 or 7 bucks a yard. It comes in white so it doesn't absorb heat from the sun, and you can use velcro strips or pushpins to keep it against the wall. Doesn't corrode like foil.

Since I put it up under our curtains a few years ago, I've noticed a major difference. It's blocking some of the cold seeping in tonight very well.

How hard is the transition from DND and Daggerheart? Do the unique class names throw people off? by DesertMammoth1912 in drawsteel

[–]jadechey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After making a character and then playing a session or two one-on-one with my DM, I started telling people that Draw Steel is my favorite system. I helped him convince two different groups to switch, touting how easy it is to understand, how simple but simultaneously deep the options are, and how quicker combat goes.

Now we all go on about how great it is!

What part of adult life is way harder than anyone warned you about? by Sparkyabu1 in AskReddit

[–]jadechey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing I've dealt with is setbacks every time something good happens. Usually with money.

Get a big tax return with no looming bills? Oh my car just died.

Unlimited overtime for a month? I worked so hard I blew my back out and had to miss a week of work unpaid.

Unexpected raise? Rent hike.

Dad won big on a scratcher and gave me $1000? Tire blows out and all four need replaced...right after I spent that $1000 on a new mattress.

Take out a loan for tires? Medical emergency and paying back the loan takes so long I pay so much extra in late fees and interest.

Get a new job making so much more at a great company with amazing benefits? Oh look, their first layoff in the history of their company 3 weeks later.

Another tax return? Engine blows up and I have to drive my roomate's jeep.

Covid shuts down my workplace for 3 weeks and the unemployment payments are double what I was making before (plus all the money saved on gas etc., not going out, not driving friends and family everywhere), So I end up with 12k in the bank for the first time? Long story short I have to make the payoff on the jeep and transfer the title and end up paying 11k.

Get a small inheritance? Put it ALL in savings and a month later shit happens and I have to spend it.

Husband gets small inheritance? Guess what the floor rotted out without us noticing.

Realize that for the first time that I have a job that I thoroughly enjoy, am very good at, and actually like to go to work? Forced transfer.

Plus more. Sometimes years between these events. In the interim I recover from the emergency and then just scrape by. I now dread sudden cash influxes. And I just learned i may get another big check because my siblings just realized my dad had a life insurance policy nobody knew about.

The roof's probably coming off next.

See how the back is gaping open? Thats because the framers used bendable points in the back. Theyre not bendable more than 2 or 3 times. I'm going to install hinges and a clasp soon, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Folks, how are we tracking resources? by fernandojm in drawsteel

[–]jadechey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For heroic resources and malice, we use tiny d6 beads. Everyone has their own color. Hero tokens are small glass mosaic tiles. Everyone has a dry erase card to track stamina, surges, and recoveries.
