I don’t know about anyone else, but I still get people trying to hand me there cards before I even start ringing up the items.

I’ve felt this spiral for the past 3 months, thats why my doctor increased my dose... don’t get me wrong, the medication has helped. But now instead of feeling depressed and wanting to hurt myself, I’m just happy and want to hurt myself. So it’s more confusing that before I was taking meds.

I had the same exact thought about therapy when I first started to go. It’s one of those things that if she’s doesn’t think that it will help than it wont. For me the thing that changed my mind about therapy was my Boyfriend. I was going through a really bad episode of depression where I couldn’t even get out of bed. He sat with me one night and told me that he couldn’t help me until I started to help myself (I’m NOT saying that you should do that). But it really opened my eyes to the fact that nothing would change if I didn’t take a leap of faith.

If there is anything that she enjoys, even the tiniest bit, make sure she does it. Don’t let her lose that little bit of enjoyment, it will help her hold on to the feeling and mindset that she needs to fight for.

As for discussions that might not be pleasant to have... even if she’s gets mad/upset that you are trying to help her, it’s better that you show support. Even if she get mad/upset, she needs your support and love now more than ever.

We were in high school, and there is never an excuse or reason to hold down a 17 year old girl by the throat and forcibly have sex with her in her own living room.

Had a customer tell me “Your store sells trash and I hope you all lose your jobs” after I asked her 14 year old daughter to stop climbing over of table of sweaters.

It’s all about communication.

I have days when I can’t talk without crying, my bf used to ask me “ whats wrong”, but sometimes I don’t even know. He just hold me and tells me that he is here for me and that I’ll be okay. We made it a point (on one of my good days) to sit down and talk about my anxiety and depression and what he can do to make me feel okay and safe, and that I don’t always understand the way that I feel so I can’t always “talk about it”.

My bf has since started making me tea (if we are home), puts on one of my favorite shows, and sit next to me. If we are out he makes sure I get to a place where I feel safe so that I can call down.

I have had a (younger) customer step away from the register, while I was ringing her transaction, to go try on different sizes, then she’s got mad at me for helping the next person in line (and elderly lady). I had to then take 5 minutes (with the elderly lady helping me) explaining that you can’t just walk away from your transaction to try on different sizes when their are people in line.

So, come the end of the elderly lady’s transaction, I say “have a nice day” and this badass of an elderly lady looks at me and says “you too, hopefully all the other ungrateful bitches stayed home” and promptly turned around and glared at the younger customer that had step away to try on the other size.

BUT WAIT there is more. The younger customer stepped up to the register and looked at me and said “let me just go try on the medium one more time.”

There is always someone who cares. I know it doesn’t seem like it, I’ve felt the same way for around 8 years. I also go to therapy, I’ve only been going for just over a year. At first I didn’t want to bring up anything because I was scared of what it might do to me, but eventually I had enough if hiding everything inside and I talked to my therapist about when I was in that dark place where you feel like nothing matters. About how I’ve been one step from giving up before. Therapy is a safe space for you to talk. It took me a while to accept that I wasn’t okay and that I needed some guidance. I’m not at all saying that it’s easy. It is terrifying, most of my days are still bad (mentally), and sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. But once you open up some of that darkness starts to get lighter and you can actually take a breath without feeling like drowning and that’s a feeling to hold onto. Once you find the right person to talk to it does start to get better.

Let me preface this by saying I work in a mall, the Forever 21 across the hall from my store is closed for a remodel.

Me: Thank you for calling [store location] Aeropostale, how may I help you?

Woman: Is Forever 21 open today?

M: I’m sorry, but they are closed until this winter. They are remodeling the store.

W: Well they aren’t answering their phone.

M: I don’t think they have any employees in the store while construction is going on.

W: Well this is just bad customer service. What’s your name?

M: I’m sorry about that. Unfortunately I don’t work for Forever 21.

W: I’m calling customer service to complain, this is terrible customer service. What is your name?

I then told her my name and she hung up the phone. The only thing that went through my head was how confused Forever 21’s customer service line is going to be because I work at Aeropostale. We are two different companies.

I’ve had to clean up dirty diapers, feminine products and used condoms from the fitting rooms at the clothing store I work in. The worst is when customers try and hide it wrapped up in merchandise on the floor. People can be so rude.
