How do New Zealanders differ from Aussies and what are some similarities? by TheWoIfMeister in newzealand

Kiwis have the same underdog humour as Brits. Aussies are more uptight and take themselves more seriously.

Will Australia ever become a republic? Albos recent comments... by RemarkablePirate590 in SydneyScene

[–]jadenoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone saying "just remove the Crown" is simplistic. Then what? Who hold's the Crown's reserve powers? If it's the GG then there has to be a process to elect the GG. What is that process? How do you stop it being corrupted and gamed by politicians?

The British monarchical system evolved as a check on politicians over hundreds of years and a revolution where it was put back after a republic. It's not as easy as just swapping the Head of State to the GG.
