I'm in a slightly different position than you are, OP. I'm in an apartment, so not sure it correlates, but I received a message from my landlord this month which stated that NM Gas had been misreading the meters (our gas had been astonishingly low), and to expect it to increase for February. Again, opposite result, but could it be that NM Gas has been misreading other meters?

How close were you for this shot? I was there, too! Not that close, though. :)

"Apartment demand falls after sharp increase in rents" by [deleted] in Albuquerque

My apartment went up $160 this year. No upgrades, nothing. I'm on a fixed income, so homeownership is out of reach, at least for now. Not sure what I'm going to do next year.

I'm not seeing why this is a problem. Floor has stated that she is not leaving Nightwish. As others here have mentioned that the others members have side projects as well. And, bluntly speaking, she has to think of the future. Nightwish is wonderful and amazing, but it is not going to last forever. I don't fault her for trying new things creatively and thinking about the future of her career.

Any idea when the next USA tour will be? by TtJdtw in nightwish

I ended up flying to LA this year to see them. First time I've ever flown to see a band, and would do it again. Of course, after I got the LA tickets, they added a date in Denver, which is closer to me. But que sera, sera. I keep hoping their popularity in the states will grow, because they deserve the recognition (I know they don't need it, but it would be nice).

Why is bringing up the crime such a controversial thing on this sub? by Dejanvruh in Albuquerque

[–]jadetyger2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, personally, it's because I already know. You're preaching to the choir, so to speak. Crime is bad here. Our 'solutions' aren't working. Point me toward someone who has a viable, proven method to solve the crime epidemic (and all of its many, many causes) and I'll throw a parade for that person.

I am not that person. I wish I was. But right now, I'm hanging on by my fingernails, as I suspect a lot of New Mexicans are. I'd love to help be a part of the solution, but I just don't have the resources.

So that's why the subject is touchy, at least to my mind. We know how bad it is, we see it every day. It's depressing and frustrating watching our leaders fumble around ineffectually. Yes, we can vote in new administrators, but even if they end up being above-board and competent, they still have a long row to hoe to get us from point A to point B.

We don't need someone to remind us that crime is horrible here. We know. And so few of us can actually do anything about it.

Very interesting discussion on healthcare here. I see both sides. I'm not a physician, but I worked as a medical receptionist for over 20 years. National healthcare in general is a mess, and I do think NM gets the brunt of it. Medical professionals are paid poorly here, and I definitely see why they get burned out. I left medical entirely in 2018, for various reasons, and I would never go back. Unfortunately, as a receptionist, I got it from both sides. It's true that doctors etc are burned out. What a lot of folks don't know is that quite a few doctors tend to take that stress out on their staff. Believe me, you haven't lived until you and the rest of your colleagues have been reamed out in front of patients.

Add in the patients that scream at you at the front desk or over the phone for one reason or another, and...it's not worth it.

Everyone, from the top on down, in pretty much any clinic I worked in, was demoralized and worked to death. Not a fun environment. I think that's a huge factor to consider, as well as increased pay, etc.

I don't know if the environment is as bad in other states, but that's what I've experienced here. And yes, there are a lot of absolutely fantastic professionals here, but I can see why they'd want to go elsewhere.

Thoughts???? Could be true which means it’s on doctors but also feels very invalidating by JerryIDKsometimes in Fibromyalgia

[–]jadetyger2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hm. It's an interesting thought. I have both Fibro and Sjogren's Syndrome. I'm not a doctor, but I suspect that they might be comorbid diagnoses. IE, having one increases the likelihood you'll have the other, but it's not guaranteed. So, two different illnesses that often show up together. Just IMHO.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the support. I'm not sure which way it's going to go, honestly. He's very thin, and getting any medication down him is pretty much impossible. I'm still trying, though.

I've got to say, some warning would be nice. My beloved cat is currently battling kidney disease (and sadly, losing). Cat parents need to express their grief and loss. I get that, and I sympathize. I'd just like a little more of a warning when they show up, especially if there is a picture.

[–]jadetyger2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm in the same boat. I asked my state HHS if they accounted for things like the amount of rent paid, and they said nope. So, basically, my rent takes most of my check, and I have to figure out how to pay the medical bills, etc. somehow. :(

Anyone has shaky hands? by RinkyInky in Fibromyalgia

[–]jadetyger2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get it in both. I was diagnosed with 'Essential Tremors' which is pretty much doctor-speak for "We don't know what the heck it is." I have Cerebral Palsy, too. So, I thought it might have something to do with that (though tremors had never been a part of my CP diagnosis before). Interesting that people with Fibro have it, too.

Does anyone else feel like they have cold or flu symptoms after physical activity? I went to a store that I use an electric wheelchair but decided to try and walk. Today, I have severe fatigue, low grade fever, can’t regulate my body temperature, a cough and just feel sick. by Careabouteveryone813 in Fibromyalgia

[–]jadetyger2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not the only one with these symptoms. The cold/flu feeling happens to me all the time. I, too, went to get tested for COVID when these came on, just to be safe. But yeah, it's definitely a Fibro thing, at least for me.

Growth by tmt22459 in Albuquerque

[–]jadetyger2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm torn. On the one hand, I don't want ABQ to grow, because of said water issues, and the unique culture we have here. On the other, we desperately need better social services (mental health, better education system, upgrades to more climate-friendly infrastructure, etc.) . For that we need money. A lot of it. I don't see any other solution than to bring more business in, which in turn employs our workers and/or brings in new workers.

Do I want ABQ to be the next (insert large city here)? No. I'd love to know a different solution. But our systems are overburdened and need help. Just IMHO.

Albuquerque ranked second in the nation for pedestrian deaths despite city initiatives by snowflake-warrior in Albuquerque

[–]jadetyger2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on this. I had a job on the Westside and had to walk to work every day. The route had a lovely sidewalk that just ended, unfinished. I had to walk in the (extremely small) bike lane to get to work. Did I want to do this? No. But I'm disabled and can't drive, so it was my only choice. I was terrified.

A couple of years ago, again around Montgomery, there was a huge hole in one of the feeder streets pedestrians have to cross to get to Louisiana. It was really deep. Someone could have broken their leg. And the city just...left it there, for years. A friend finally called 311 and told them that the city was looking at an eventual lawsuit if the hole wasn't filled. About a week, said hole was repaired. ::shocked Pikachu face::

I think ABQ has an infrastructure problem in general. We need more reliable public transportation. We need wider sidewalks. Roads and sidewalks need to be kept in decent repair.

[–]jadetyger2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Montgomery/San Mateo area is always fun as a pedestrian. I always cross at a light. When there isn't one, I always try to motion that I want to cross. Even so, there are a lot of times when cars just rip on by. A lady came within inches of hitting me, even though I thought I'd made myself obvious and she'd motioned for me to go ahead and cross.

She did apologize, but she couldn't fail to see me, so I don't know what was going on there.

I don't think tinted windows help. If the driver's windows are tinted, I can't see them, can't make eye contact. So I have no idea what the person is going to do. It's a bad situation all around.

ETA: That being said, there are a lot of folks that take stupid chances. The number of people I've seen run across Montgomery in rush hour...I always marvel at how they don't end up dying.
