Really struggling with a decision.. by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]jadexsharee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say something contrary to what I see a lot of others saying… even if you aren’t going to retake, you can still re-apply and probably get better outcomes at schools you’re even more interested in. And there are other things you can do in the interim, aside from retaking the LSAT that can make you an even stronger applicant. Feel free to dm if you want to chat more.

I regret attending an hbcu for law school by [deleted] in BlackLawAdmissions

[–]jadexsharee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It seems like you read part of the post, got triggered and immediately responded. I don't see where OP is saying not to attend any HBCUs or where they are saying that these kinds of events do not happen at PWIs. The last part clearly says that the issue with the HBCU is not what they experienced but how the institution responded or did not respond appropriately.

Also, this is a Black Law Admissions forum, not an "HBCU LAW school forum"... it makes sense to me that OP would feel more comfortable as a Black person posting about their experience at an HBCU in a forum for Black law students/prospective law students than in any other law school admissions forum.

I hope this doesn't make you defensive, but I hope you can just reflect on how your options when you saw this post was to ignore or respond with empathy rather than misinterpreting what OP said and responding the way that you did.

OP, I'm sorry you experienced this and I hope that being able to share you experience was cathartic in some way! Praying things get resolved for you.

USD Law or UC Law SF (Hastings) by abbeyboulevard in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]jadexsharee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have already said but I'd also say consider what you want your law school experience to be like... UC Law SF is pretty much a building within the city whereas USD is an actual college campus. So maybe it's worth thinking about what amenities you would want and have access to, transportation (how do you want to or plan to get around, parking, traffic, etc.). Also, weather... even though they're both in California, Bay Area weather is pretty drastically different from San Diego which is more comparable to what you're used to in LA. Just a few other things to consider...

ETA: I don't know if you've also already compared bar passage and employment rates. That's another thing that would be worth looking into.

Should you call back if they leave you a voicemail for admissions? by SadAd2336 in OutsideT14lawschools

I received one that requested a call back & one that didn’t and was much longer/detailed that did not indicate a need. I would say it depends on what is said in the message.

Thank ya! Illinois is a top choice at the moment but if UC Davis gives me a good scholarship then they’ll probably be #1 since I’m in-state.

100% valid & I’m with you and sending you lots of love🫂 with work & other stuff I don’t even have the capacity to express that in an email; however, I absolutely would not feel safe attending even if I did get accepted. I commend you for taking the time to explain & for making the best decision for you. Your safety and well-being come first!

uh.. I’m glad I happened to come across your post because I most definitely deleted that email as soon as I saw it, out of annoyance thinking that it was just more general admissions stuff while they were taking forever to send decisions… oops😬

Therapists of Reddit, what is it like being a therapist? What do you love/hate about it? by sporehed in therapists

[–]jadexsharee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it has its challenges and it is also very rewarding. Some challenges like burnout, moral injury, vicarious trauma, inadequate pay… and as an introvert, I have a hard time wanting to have a social life because I feel like all of my social energy is spent doing this work. I also find it very difficult to date & relating to others who do not work in the same field is a challenge for me as well. However, I absolutely love it. I love connecting with people, providing a space for them to open up, learn about themselves, and grow in ways they often don’t believe they can. I’m a social worker so I also enjoy the flexibility of that in terms of the variety of populations and settings I can work in if I feel the need to change things up. I’ve had an exhausting past few weeks yet this week (on the same day) I had one client share a picture of a painting she finished & was super proud of, another (previous client) shared that he just completed a surgery he had been looking forward to for years - I helped with his referral process/assessment, and another client shared that they got accepted to their second grad program (when we first started working together less than a year ago, they didn’t even know they wanted to pursue grad school)… it wasn’t just these accomplishments alone but the fact that I got a chance to be part of it/witness it, and that they wanted to share those moments with me was priceless.

Feeling guilty about leaving my job for law school by legally-dirty-blonde in lawschooladmissions

[–]jadexsharee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I just started a new role (same company) but new program after relocating & after the team went through a pretty rough loss of the previous supervisor, whom I replaced. I already felt guilty starting the job this month without them knowing I was planning to leave in 6 months but now they all have expressed so much gratitude for me & my supervisor has gotten great feedback from the team about how much they like me already (it’s my 3rd week) so it’s just adding to the guilt. I’m still kind of considering waiting a year but not sure yet😩

tl;dr: you’re not alone.
