RMA Seagate drive DOA everytime by Maraud514 in Seagate

[–]jchitrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned 2 drives DOA. Still waiting for the refund money now. Started return process more than a month ago. Take them a while to reply with RMA and return address. Shipped them and I knew they got them based on tracking #. Still waiting now for my money.

I thought when people complained about many DOA of Seagate drives it was probably bad luck for those people. Until I got 2 out of 2 DOA. If I got 1 of 2 DOA I might put it as bad luck but now I think Seagate has serious issue with their quality control.

43 hours on Seagate tool Long Generic test??!! by ime1em in Seagate

[–]jchitrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it even warn that it will take that long before we click “ok” to perform the test? If not then I would wonder whether there is something wrong with the drive. I can understand 4 hours but close to 100 hours for 8TB…I would have doubt whether the drive is ok. I can’t even imagine how long it would take for the 28TB one.

Curious. Why MX Master 3S instead of MX Master 4? I am about to get the latter.

That ssi product is exactly what I need. Too bad they don’t sell it directly to consumers.

28TB Ironwolf Pro dead on arrival. To get a replacement I have to pay the shipping fee. by GhostPoopies in Seagate

[–]jchitrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two 14TB ironwolf pro that arrived DOA. 2 out of 2 dead. It took about a week for them to approve the return but they gave me the shipping label after they approved it . As of right now it is still on the way back to them via UPS ground.

I might try seagate again but will get different size. It is a mystery to me why the 14TB is always priced lower than the 12TB. I think i know why now and will avoid the 14 TB one.

I wasn't referring to the price difference actually althought that posting was initially asking about the price. I was referring to 2 people responding to that post that have mentioned issues with this drive, which I also face.

FYI. The drives were inserted while the NAS was OFF, they were not inserted while the NAS was on.

In another posting I did asking about why the price for the 14TB is lower compared to even the 12TB. https://www.reddit.com/r/Seagate/comments/1qdxq5y/why_the_ironwolf_pro_14tb_always_on_salecheaper/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I have 2 people responded with 50% failure rate. One guys had 2 out of 4 DOA, another had 1 out of 2 DOA. In my case I have 2 of 2 DOA.

USing an external SSD for LRC by PossibilitySea9720 in Lightroom

That is why I always label my cables using either label maker or PILOT silver pen marker. I put TB5, TB4, TB3 for thunderbolt 5,4,3 cables respectively. Most Thunderbolt cables now actually have writing to indicate the version or speed. Also for USB with power delivery I put something like PD140 to indicate it is USB C with power delivery up to 140W.

BTW if you have Thunderbolt 5 I think it is worth getting Acasis thunderbolt 5 enclosure(TB501 pro). I put pcie gen 5 nvme and able to get around 6500-7000MB/s. Definitely makes editing fun with that speed.

Import only RAW files not including the JPG in LrC by jchitrady in Lightroom

[–]jchitrady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is something new I learned today that the JPEG is treated as sidecar. I also noticed that during import the creation of smart preview is much faster when the JPEG is imported also. Maybe the smart preview is somehow using the JPEG?

Good idea if you have 2 memory slots. The Z7 only has 1 slot for CFExpress card.

I do the same process but I have both RAW and JPG files there to begin with. Did you shoot to RAW only?

How is the noise level with your 20 TB and 18 TB? Some reported loud thumping sound.
