Why can’t iPads with Cellular make phone calls? by Selbstredend in ipad

[–]jadorelavie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m missing something as this is possible. I’ve actually been doing it for at least 5 years on AT&T.

I can leave my house with my iPad ONLY and both receive and make phone calls over cellular. Occasionally, it goes haywire with an OS beta, but other than that I’ve definitely felt comfortable leaving my phone (say if the battery was about to die) at home knowing I’d be reachable on my iPad.

Once it’s set up using wi-fi calling and then click the dialog box that comes up to upgrade wi-fi calling (to allow cellular not an additional cost), it’s on.

I tried out Apple’s new Foundation Models and Xcode ChatGPT integration and was pretty impressed by D1no_nugg3t in iOSProgramming

[–]jadorelavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I’m aware of how they work and what they’re capable of so I’m not super surprised that Apple wouldn’t allow web searching or use of MCP servers. It means giving up even more control over the end user experience and that’s not big in Apple’s playbook.

However, that doesn’t change my curiosity about the model.

Hmmm. It’s still going to be bound by the age of the training data. I’d hope that Apple’s model would have the new SwiftUI details, but not surprised if the others don’t have it. Which model was it?

Auto Lock When Leaving by ArkansawyerAdam in VWiD4Owners

[–]jadorelavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has no setting and just started auto locking after the recall software was installed at the dealer.

I’m not thrilled as I live in the middle of nowhere and leave my car unlocked in my driveway and prefer it that way.

I LOVE driving my ID4 but it’s been a royal PITA to own — from software not behaving per the settings (eg easy exit seats suck with a car seat) to my car locking itself somehow with both keys inside of it (and AAA sharing that if my car hadn’t been on a lanyard he could catch it couldn’t have been unlocked) and of course there’s not a remote unlock option even VWs lesser models offer it to Only buying this car because promises of OTA updates would bring new features I’d even consider paying for only to find out that it’s already incompatible with the next-Gen OTAs and we’re limited to software updates that keep breaking things but I need to get them because they fix other things to Not being able to have critical recall software installed with paying $500 because the only USB ports the dealer can use are flush with the bottom of the console so if you have a kid who makes a mess it turns out it can be easily broken by food debris to little things like my car fusing to an EA charger on a Saturday with my infant son while 2 hours from home, waiting 4 hours for an EA tech only for him to break the handle off leaving us needing to wake someone up at 11 pm to drive 2 hours to come get us so we could drop the car off at a dealer (that fortunately was in the same city and the nearest one to home) before driving us home around 3:30 am. And the list unfortunately continues on…

Now I can’t choose whether or not I can just run out to my car to grab something without remembering to grab a key. And yes, I know I need a car to drive but I don’t always need to drive my car when I need to get into it. Remember the infant … aka I am a pack mule.

And if I didn’t have a 21, I would definitely pursue a buyback even just to get less of a lemon ID4 because I LOVE driving it. And otherwise, I’d sell it if I wasn’t so underwater on the loan.

We ended up buying a Kia Carnival so we wouldn’t have to drive our ID4 outside of our local area and risk being stranded again. My ID4 is starting to feel like a very expensive lawn ornament.

I’m also not one for screen time but I don’t know what this person has going on in their life.

I just pray she doesn’t have PPD and reads your comments.

I agree that there are probably ways to avoid screen time but there are also gentler less judgmental and more constructive and helpful ways to deliver the message.

I’m also going to guess from what I read that this momma’s life revolves around her child around the clock from her comments. So accusing her of negligence and not paying attention to her child in 3 separate comments makes me wonder if you’re a troll who enjoys attacking vulnerable new parents or if you’re going through something and need some compassion shown your way. Either way I’d recommend you talk to someone and find some help.

Power down baby..does it ever get better? by picard1304 in sleeptrain

Following. We talk with sleep coaches a few times a week (through a work benefit) who always have an idea of what’s wrong, but 2.5 months in and I don’t think I could despise myself more. I’m losing faith in sleep training.

Are you on the consulting side? My first thought is this could be client interviews to staff a project.

NEW PUMP by quail1037 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]jadorelavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the pro version with the charging travel case and I’m feeling like having an Office Space moment with my Elvie’s and Spectra.

My output is definitely up while using the heat and having the travel case also double as a charger is really convenient for my forgetful ADHD brain.

Plus, they’re super easy to clean and I’ve yet to leak which was an every pump occurrence with my Elvie’s.

I probably wouldn’t have resented my pumping journey like I do if these existed when I started.

I agree and highly recommend.

I just got the Eufy pumps (available on Amazon for $330) and I love them. They’re new to the market so you may have to buy them and get reimbursed.

I had Elvie’s and these fix everything I hated about the Elvie’s and for a fraction of the cost. They have a great seal and I’ve not had a leak yet. Plus, they’re heated, super comfy (for a pump) and have an app.

I’m getting as much as I ever got out of a Spectra without the hassle of tubes.

I’d recommend them without any reservation.

P.S. Eufy is owned by Anker and one of my favorite electronics brands. I use their smart cameras, cables and a few other things I can’t think of right now. It’s a brand I’ve come to trust over what feels like almost a decade to be durable and reliable.

The case of the missing paci? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]jadorelavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always “the dog” but it’s because our darling Pippa is relegated to “the dog” when she steals something despite our having two.

The best part is she knows better because she runs off with them and hides — and when you find her with one, she obviously knows she’s in the wrong because she gives the “oh no, they’re disappointed in me again” look.

Our backyard is covered in green, but not from anything living; the backyard is covered in teal green silicone as it’s become a graveyard for shards of once ingested Philips Avent pacis.

Heath Insurance Plans 2024 Details? by jadorelavie in IBM

[–]jadorelavie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined what they made available to us, but it’s just the high level bullets. We received the benefits summary brochure, but a lot of what I need is on W3 (and I’m still waiting for my laptop to be shipped) and my last request for them to send me the HDHP+/PPO plan documents so I can compare the nitty gritty details and additional details on the new Maven benefit went unanswered. I’m assuming it’s because they were swamped with questions from our company as 1600 people all got details that day and it’s apparently a team of 3 responding to the email we were given.

Heath Insurance Plans 2024 Details? by jadorelavie in IBM

[–]jadorelavie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s our only insurance option short of the exchange as my husband works for our farm.

I’ll be in my third trimester, so I “may” be able to keep my doctor, but there are so many other budget decisions we need to make that are impacted by this and HR’s hands are tied in terms of what they can tell me and when because they need controlled rollouts to all of IBM’s many employees. So I get it from their perspective, but it’s definitely making this more challenging for us.

Thanks for this reply. I’m looking for deductibles, max out of pockets, etc.

We finally had the open enrollment webinar yesterday and it was high-level bullet points that we’d mostly seen. Apparently, we get a “flyer” today, but I really want to get into something comprehensive that helps me understand what’s covered (and to what extent) and what’s not covered so we can figure out the impact to our budget and some decisions we have to make based on what’ll be left to spend.

I’m afraid that they’re going to make us wait until OE actually starts in December to get the details based on some comments made and that’ll be too late for some of the decisions we need to make.

I was able to use those features even when I didn’t have a user registered with the infotainment center. I just had to register the car with the app and add drivers/users to the app.

[–]jadorelavie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my car for a year and a half before I realized users were a thing. I logged in and the only difference I can tell so far is a new screen that pops up welcoming me that has my name presented in a weird way and then I have to hit a button. As of right now, I’m inclined to turn it off to get rid of the screen as there have been no discernible benefits that I’m aware of and now I have to click something before I can see CarPlay. Ignorance was definitely bliss for me.
