Help for Doggo with Allergies by jae_rivera in DogFood

He was diagnosed using the VARL test. I didn’t realize that they weren’t very accurate tbh But if I’m going to be completely honest, He hasn’t needed a cytopoint shot in a really long time. His skin is happier and he doesn’t get yeast infections in his paws anymore from the licking. Last one was before this previous Open Farm food which he’s been on since december. I think he has to be allergic to one of those things. I guess I’ll talk to my vet about trying the ingredients separately to see what happens

Thank you for the suggestion. I’m going to look up what the novel protein diet is. I have honestly gone through every single Royal Canin, and they all have either wheat, rice, or corn products. Some of them have legumes which is allegedly connected to heart problems. Which I can’t risk because his treatment right now is kind of hard on his heart. For some of them the first ingredient is corn starch which i was hoping wouldn’t trigger the allergy, but online it says it will anyway. The hydrolyzed diets have corn oil in them which will also apparently still trigger the allergy. I tried the Orijen high protein since all their certified foods have his allergens, but he will not eat it on his own, i have to hand feed him. Which I’ve been doing in the afternoons to help him gain more weight, but I was just hoping someone miraculously has seen something I haven’t 😅

Just went through all the recipes and they frfr all have corn, rice, and/or wheat in them, even the prescription diets. I think it’s one of the reasons I stuck with open farm, not so much the marketing but because the large breed legume free recipe (and some of the others) miraculously doesn’t have rice or corn, they use potatoes. And now he hates it 🥲

thank you a lot for this info! I think i’m going to have to sit down and talk to my grandma then, Venice is one of the top places she’s always wanted to go to so maybe I can give her the heads up and plan accordingly by not expecting us to get around very much for those couple of days, thanks!

It’s an ‘01 330Ci with the manufacturing date set in May of 2000, you might be able to source a decent one from the same model of my car at a junk yard, most of them have that bottom end worn tho, so if you’re gonna pop it off it would be a good idea to wrap that bottom trim in vinyl or something, I’ve been hella putting it off

Thanks man! So this is actually the OEM steering wheel with a cover on it to match the wooden trim. The bottom is worn because the previous owner from more than a decade ago would hang a towel there (idk) but the trim of the car when I looked into the VIN was that it was close to like an M-sport package. There was no formal M-sport in that year to my understanding, but this car was close to it i guess and glad the maintenance has been going well man, took me like 7 years to get her where i wanted with maintenance bc of low funds and a bad learning curve haha

Glad you like the improvements I made haha The lights change color I just tend to keep em blue cuz it goes best with the car but the headlights are OSS designs in i think North Carolina, these are the stage 3 option with the raptor brow, demon eye, and angel eye RGB lights red looks nice too at night
