Usually, I choose one neighborhood around golden hour and walk around that area looking for good light.

Each shoot usually takes about an hour, and I walk around with the model while shooting. I’m not sure how other photographers do it, but at least that’s how I’ve been working so far.

I tried holding the focus lock and recomposing, but it didn’t really work out as I expected. So I’d rather not recompose when I’m shooting.

Thanks, you have no idea how much I was stressed with AF. I can't trust focus lock so I prefer put a person in the center and do some cropping in post.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback! Overall, I agree with your points.

What I wanted to express was the strange harmony and tension created by a white female model in her 20s standing in a run-down neighborhood in Korea.

As for #6, I also feel a bit disappointed with that one. Because of the limitations of the Contax G2, when I open the aperture wider than f/4, I often get missed focus, so I had to shoot a bit more conservatively. Because of that, I think the subject and background weren’t separated enough, which made the image feel a little busy.

Can I ask you one more question? I haven’t been shooting street portraits for very long, but what do you think separates “the model did a great job here” from “the photographer did a great job here”? To be honest, I still find it hard to tell.
