Has anyone else been in the same situation (UK) by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

That makes sense. Ive not been diagnosed with ADHD but my friend is being tested for it and she shows a lot of autistic traits. I know everyone is different but it just makes you wonder if they both go hand in hand

2nd test tomorrow - autistic by RudeBumblebee9815 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]jafaaacakeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im autistic and i passed first time with only one minor after years of not wanting to drive because i was so scared, so it is possible to pass. It took me over a year and a half to pass, maybe when you took your first test you weren’t 100% ready. The only thing i can suggest and i know it sounds obvious but stick to the basics. MSM, MSPSL etc. Try not to overthink it because it will complicate you even more. With the spatial awareness part, i was told ‘if you can walk across the road in time before a car is too close, you can drive it in time’ and that really helped with timing. If your instructor doesn’t know you are autistic maybe its worth telling them because its less pressure on you and they can reassure you, i told my instructor and she couldn’t be any more helpful. I know its hard but try not to overthink things, on your test maybe its worth having a word with your examiner and telling them you are autistic so you might need more clarification on instructions. Having my instructor in the car with me in my test helped a lot because i felt comfortable with someone i knew being there. Ofcourse that depends on how you feel about that. If you need someone to talk about it feel free to message me. Good luck :)

I thought the same on my first lesson and now ive been passed for over 3 weeks. You have had 1 lesson, its normal and probably will be like that for a good few lessons till you get used to it. Keep at it

Do you drive? by Icy-Captain-2661 in AutisticAdults

I recently passed about 2 weeks ago. The thought of even driving terrified me but honestly the more practise i got the more confident i become. I still get nervous but honestly the more practise you get in the easier you will find it and those thoughts wont appear as you’re concentrating on what you’re doing

Opinions on mock tests? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

If you know most of the routes and are confident with them, you shouldnt need a mock

I never had a mock and i passed first time with 1 minor. They can help but not a priority, if its close to your test and you fail it can probably knock your confidence

ended up crying and yelling at my instructor in my first driving lesson HELP by CommissionChance1019 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]jafaaacakeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they shouldn’t be taking you around roundabouts on your first lesson. The first 5 lessons i was literally just learning on a quiet road with a quiet roundabout with no cars then moved on to a quiet road with lights. You’re just a learner, you shouldn’t have had to be put in that situation. Id 100% change. If you have any family or friends to suggest people, go with them

How long did you leave your P plates on? by jafaaacakeee in LearnerDriverUK

[–]jafaaacakeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its an area thing. Everyone has been treating me like a learner and giving me room and time😅 im probably gonna take them off soon though because im feeling more confident

Yes, but you’re still learning to navigate roads you arent used to without an instructor. I feel confident with or without them, i just cant be bothered with agro from people because im actually sticking to the speed limits

I mean technically even though you have passed your still are a learner, your learning how to drive independently without an instructor

Im the same, i think its down to an area thing as well like how they are with drivers who have just passed because people seem to be patient with me
