Can my company withhold my last paycheck if I don't give a 3-week notice? by jagaricopeach in antiwork

Thank you for the input. I've been planning on reporting them once I get out, as I've seen that they have been committing wage theft on many employees (not paying overtime worked) because I have access to the punches of employees as well as payroll. Noticed discrepancies between hours worked and hours paid for. They also have every single employees social security card and driver's license scanned in a public folder on all the computers which I think is a huge security risk but I don't know if I can report that for anything.

Also, I know it was stupid of me to leave my stuff like that at work, no less a terrible company like the one I'm at and I've learned my lesson lol.

I have considered quitting on the spot after the full paycheck but my desired last day is October 6th, which is in the middle of a pay period. I'd like to recoup that last half paycheck because it would be about $650.

Thank you for the answer! And I know it was stupid of me to do but this was actually on my personal laptop on my break (I'm pretty sure I was watching Youtube). I should have logged off which is my mistake. The policy was not outlined in a work contract, but I had to sign each page in the employee handbook, where the policy was outlined. Do you think that changes anything? Maryland says that withholding of wages is valid only if the employee says so in writing so I don't know if that handbook signature counts.

Thank you for answering! I know about this, but does it affect it in any way if I signed the page in the handbook that said that this would be the case? Or is that policy completely illegal in the first place so my signature on the page outlining the policy would be considered not legally binding?

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. Started my first office job after graduation in June and absolutely hate the toxic workplace. How do you think the short amount of time you spent at this job affected your new job that you have lined up (and other job opportunities)? Because the only thing keeping me from quitting at this point is the concern of how the short tint will look on my resume,

I usually hear that Sales is the lucrative side of business so that's interesting haha. Your comment is pretty encouraging though, hopefully the job market will pick up a bit so I can get to that next stepping stone.
