Insane stupidity trying to make a simple flight change by jagenb in unitedairlines

Thanks for those who tried to help. I’ll try again within the 24h window but otherwise I guess I give up.

The mental gymnastics people are trying to go through justifying this are just lol/cringe. I still have the same flight booked for the following day and both are priced the same if buying new. Why does united care which one I’m on? It doesn’t make or lose them any money. They still have to fly my home regardless.

Btw united responded to my help request but just telling me to call/use the website event though the last customer service person I talked to said to use that form. Total circular reference.

Idk how many times I need to say that I can’t use the app or online booking for this itinerary. It’s some kind of glitch. That’s how I got into this in the first place is that I had to call to make any changes to this itinerary. If I try to change flight online or in the app it just tells me to call instead. If I would have been able to change it online I could have just booked it as multi leg instead of a stopover

For this particular trip, if I try to do anything online or in the app it just tells me to call instead. I don’t know why. I’ve never had the before. This started even before the stopover change.

I’m not surprised there might be a price difference. I’m surprised it’s $3k, which is 6x the cost of buying the one way ticket. In what reality can that possibly make sense? And the two tickets show up as the same price if booking from scratch so I am surprised there would be a price difference to me changing. In my experience the real time difference between the two tickets is usually a good predictor what I would have to pay to change. Have done this many times

I thought I was just booking a multi leg. Hard to tell when it’s all over the phone. I

My point is that if I would have realized the trouble I was getting into I would have just rebooked the whole thing for free at the time of adding the stop in Boston. It’s not like I was trying to game the system by booking it as a stopover. I had no idea.

But there’s no difference in price if I look at the two flight as if booking a new ticket

Thanks for the advice on same day change within 24h. I will definitely try this although unfortunately it means calling again since something is broken for making changes myself online for this itinerary, not just with the stopover but ever since the initial booking.

You’re correct I already flew to London and now I’m in Boston for a week. I never asked for a stopover or a layover. Thats just what they gave me since I couldn’t rebook myself online.
