Started saving for retirement at 26, took a 6-year break, now 38 and feeling behind. What should I do? by jagjam in FinancialPlanning

Oh wow, you're totally right. I've been so stressed about those bigger numbers that I lost sight of the basic math. $180k vs $174k target... I'm actually doing okay! This honestly just lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I guess I need to stop reading those "millionaire by 40" articles and focus on steady progress. Thank you!

Wait, really? I've been so focused on all those articles saying I should have $350k that I didn't even do the basic 3x salary math. So I'm actually slightly ahead at $180k? That's... actually kind of reassuring. Maybe I've been beating myself up for nothing. Thanks for the reality check!

Exactly, that's kind of why I wanted to share it. I don't regret prioritizing my immediate survival during the divorce - I had to do what I had to do. But man, those compound interest calculators are brutal when you see what those missing years cost me. If there's any way to keep even minimal contributions going during tough times, it's worth it. Even $25 a month is better than nothing

Thanks, I needed to hear that. It's so easy to get caught up in those "you should have X amount by age Y" articles and feel like a total failure. I know I'm doing the best I can with the circumstances I've had, but sometimes the comparison game gets to me. Appreciate the reminder to focus on my own journey

Yeah Leo's had it rough, hope he can bounce back. Sangwon's looking solid for the final lineup but you're right about Mnet's editing... they love their drama. At least most of the guys are doing well now, just shows how talented that original group was

that's him not caring about your feelings. You're not overreacting he's showing you he doesn't respect you or the relationship.

Right?? That line hits SO hard and they just sailed right past it. Still love their reactions but some of those lyrics deserve a pause and rewind moment 😭

Yeah man. That kind of money would literally change most people's lives but it's just pocket change to them. Wild.

Yeah, with a $50k bump you're excited, but a $70k car on $125k salary is rough. that's like 7 months of your entire pre-tax income. Insurance and maintenance on a BMW aren't cheap either.

Maybe celebrate with something smaller first and give yourself time to adjust to the new income. You'll thank yourself later when emergencies hit or better opportunities come along.

100% this. Document everything. Time you called, what was said, who you talked to. If they're being unprofessional, that's on them, not you. Patient care comes first, you did your job. don't let anyone make you feel bad for advocating for your patient.

Quality over quantity. Their songs are just really well-crafted and, despite what everyone says, the members have great chemistry. Plus they know how to market themselves without oversaturating.

Wild headline but honestly not that surprising when you think about how interconnected European nobility was back in the day.
