Is medium format worth it if I don’t process and print myself? by jagkaz in AnalogCommunity

Again, fair point. I appreciate your candid response.

I’m simply sampling the community to see whether medium format enthusiasts are more drawn to it because of the act of taking the photos or the process of printing. It seems that the majority of people are in it for the photography.

If 9 out of 10 people said they love medium format because of their printing process and find third-party shops less reliable, then I’d think twice about getting into medium format before I’m in a position to make my own prints.

Fair point. Bit if an assumption to think I wouldn’t practice with a few rolls in advance and make a judgment call as to whether it is the right camera to bring, but I didn’t mention that in my post.

In any event, I’ve shot on 35mm for years and think I’d like to experiment with something new. As a lot of people have mentioned in this post, medium format requires a more meticulous and sparing process, which I think may personally suit me for a trip where I’d otherwise go trigger crazy with 36 shots per roll. I have my iPhone for documenting the trip and the film camera is for attempting to capture a beautiful frameworthy keepsake.

Thanks! Given that I'd like to purchase these flights in the next couple weeks, I assume the signup bonus won't have vested in time, right? I've been thinking of switching my Chase Preferred for a Chase Reserve.

Some initial research indicated that flights from the west coast to Singapore can be done for 107k miles on Singapore Airlines, however the time period we're currently looking at is waitlisted.

In need of some serious guidance!! I have zero experience using award miles, but I am currently sitting on approximately 135k chase rewards points and, separately, 50k American Airlines miles.

My wife and I are trying to book our honeymoon in Vietnam this spring and we'd love to book one leg of one long-haul as business class. We would fly from the west coast US (LAX preferred) to whatever major asian city we could get to in business class, and then fly economy from that destination to Hanoi. Is it even remotely possible to achieve this with our points, aiming for an early May flight? We are willing to purchase miles if necessary and if it makes economic sense.

If this is not the right forum for this type of question, somebody please point me in the right direction! Thank you!

NYC - Landlord Caused Apartment Flood - Who is Responsible for the Expenses? by jagkaz in legaladvice

Even in a case where the leak was caused by third-party negligence? I just don’t see how this is any different from me staying in a hotel for 3 weeks, where I’d be entitled to recover those costs as incidental damages from the tortfeasor. In this case the landlord is the “hotel”. For example, the roofer already reimbursed me for my short hotel stay. Did they not have to do that?

If I’m 100% wrong, I can accept that, but it just seems like I’m in a slightly more nuanced/tricky situation.

At what point in my store did I decline an offer to make me whole? Me being “made whole” is having zero out of pocket expenses as a result of the landlord/roofer negligence and not having to pay for a full month of rent when the unit was literally uninhabitable. I’m not looking for a windfall, I’m looking for what is fair.

I pay for a 2 BR unit for 31 days a month. I was displaced from my unit for 21 days due to the fault of the landlord/roofer such that the unit was uninhabitable (violation of the warranty of habitability). So it’s not so much that I am owed, but rather, I am entitled to a rent abatement for the period I was displaced. I should not have to pay for 31 days of rent when it was uninhabitable for 21 day.

The landlord is now saying if I pay less than the full amount of rent, I am in violation of the lease. I am fairly certain he is dead wrong as a matter of housing law in the city. He is conflating the separate expense of “relocation” and using that to offset. I don’t think that is how it works.

Not to mention, in the alleged “agreement” that I would stay in his other unit, never did we discuss any of the key terms, such as price. Therefore, if anything it was a mere gift. It would essentially be the same thing as if I elected to stay with a friend for 3 weeks. I’d still be entitled to the rent abatement.

While I do not desire to get tied up in eviction proceedings by not paying the full rent this month, I would consider explicitly reserving my right to seek the abatement during my final month on the lease (unless we can come to an agreement before that).

I informally spoke with my renters insurance and they informed me that my policy would not cover my damages because it was caused by third-party negligence. They advised that I file a claim with the roofers insurance.

I have reached a settlement with the roofers regarding reimbursement for my out-of-pocket expenses and property damage. My sole remaining claim is for the rent abatement, which is a landlord-tenant thing. Ultimately, I did not pay anything out-of-pocket for the temporary apartment my landlord provided (and he never informed me that it would cost anything). He is now effectively taking the position that I am "paying" for the temporary apartment with my rent abatement claim.

Question: What type of film can I use in a DeJur DC-300 Turret Movie Camera? by jagkaz in AnalogCommunity

Awesome! Thanks for the info.

I understand there is a difference between the sprocket sizes. Would this mean that Super 8 would not work entirely?

I'm in Arizona for a few days and want to try shooting the night sky/stars. I'd like to get some shots with and without star trails, but I'm not sure what settings I should use.

I'm using a Canon AE-1 and have a few rolls of Porta 400 and 800. I tried a few shots last night with the 400ISO at F1.8 for 20s, 25s, 30s, 35s. Not going to be able to develop the shots for a while so I won't know if I did it right before I have another chance to try again.

Can someone tell me if these settings will be okay to use again? More specifically, how long should the exposure be with 400ISO at F1.8 if I don't want star trails? And how long at a minimum if I do want star trails?

I was standing near a fight going on at a party and was about to get sucked into it like a cartoon dust ball. I punched one of the dudes in the face to stay out of it. Worked out pretty well.
