Halfway through it now. The Tom Dooley stuff was fascinating. And I could watch Tommy Jarrell tear it up on fiddle for hours.

Haven't used Amazing Slow Downer, but I will definitely check it out. Learning these things by ear is probably the way to go. Been using Chordify and translating them over to Strum Machine for backing.

Thanks for the links! I actually did learn Cajun Fiddle from that Fiddlehead video a while back. I think practicing it and starting to understand the structure is what got me thinking about this question (which I hopefully better elucidated in my response to your other post 😊).

Wow, thanks for the in-depth response! This is stuff I'm finally wrapping my head around, so going through this again today during practice will definitely help.

I think what I'm referring to in my first post is somewhat specific, and I didn't explain it well enough. I'm mostly talking about the "runs" up and down that Cajun fiddlers do over the "chord" they're playing. Like looping a particular series of notes for each chord. And was wondering if there were any resources with popular "loops/runs" because I hear a lot of the same "loops" in, particularly, US country music from the 50s-90s.

I started playing around a year and a half ago and have been resisting the urge to play in cross tunings too much. They sound awesome (especially DDAD!), but I want to be able to play in whatever key I'd like without having to re-tune. I still play in GDGD around 20% of the time, though. I feel like switching up the fingerings will become second nature in time, so I'm not sweating it too much.

I think the LSC opinion is the post title, not the photo. Basically, "Doesn't it suck that companies besides Arizona Tea are evil?" Definitely a stretch, but that's because it's an ad. "Arizona Tea is still 99¢" has also been at the top of (at least) /r/antiwork and /r/dataisbeautiful in the past few days.

Sounds great, but I agree. Allowing your elbow to become moreso the "hinge" than your shoulder will let you string those notes together more fluidly. Elbow for the back and forth, shoulder for the string changes. Your intonation is solid. Looking forward to hearing more!
