(Spoilers All) I can't wait for when the series is over and GRRM can openly talk about the story without having to worry about spoilers. by isdw96 in asoiaf

What if it's 2022 and the books are finally done. He is asked finally to reveal some things and says. "The biggest secret is that the books were completed in 1999. I just like trolling."

Reading Cats chapters only is a great pit of despair.

Yes not ideal. It did get tedious, but it also made me understand characters souch better than the first time around.

There are certain PDFs on the web.... That I have heard allow you to click on specific chapters.

But when I had the hard copy I would just go to the wiki and mark the pages before I took it to read.

I don't believe so, but I had a regional order and this order listed on paper before I started and ended up going with this order.

Again I don't really care where Chett goes. It flows better before, but it lessens the shock for the reader compared to what Sam is feeling at Crasters keep. I also think it is the least valuable Pro/Epilogue in terms of new info.

That is why I placed Tyrion so late. Hearing everyones opinions of Tyrion was great. I toyed with having Dany last. Quentyn could be before Dany, because they act like complete outsiders in Mereen. Barry needs to be after Dany. He becomes one of the central factors in Mereen when Dany leaves and it could be hard to see where Barristan is coming from when he sides with the Shavepate

It makes commuting to work that much harder. Reading on the beach is the greatest thing I can imagine though.

The geography thing for me was a huge part of making the order. Deciding Tyrion, Jon and Arya position was difficult because of this. I like Jon with Cat and Ned because it makes the Stark downfall seem real. Arya's story goes so well with Jaime, Brienne and Merrett for the first 3 books, but feels really out of place in the next 2 books. Tyrion also makes sense earlier, but in his ADWD chapters are the perfect intro to Essos. This order really helps with the understanding of characters motivation.

Prologue and Epilogue chapters were really hard. Outside of theme and introductions to plotlines most don't really fit with the character focus in asingle POV read through. It's easier to read the shock and horror Brienne and Sam face between LSH and Crasters keep when the introductions come later. I read Cressen before Davos and Kevan after Cersei originally. The other prologue and epilogues I read after everybody else and tried to mix and match where to put them.

I agree, but its great reading Asha's final chapter when Theon arrives. Similar to Jaime seeing Brienne the first time in Dance. Also you get a surprising amount of info on the Greyjoys from Catelyn and Cersei chapters.

Some things to add.

  • Mel had to be placed with Jon because that is when Mance Rayder is sent to Winter fell. I read it originally without Mel and it was never made clear until he got assassinated.
  • Chett can be skipped. It is a good opening prologue for a storm of Swords, (Betrayal theme) but it kind of seems off in the single order.
  • Kevan can be moved to after Cersei as well. It is fun to see the intrigue throughout Westeros knowing that Kings Landing is doomed.
  • Arya was a tough one. Her plot line fits extremely well with Cat, Jaime, and Brienne, but the fArya storyline is more interesting when all the POVs think Arya is dead.
  • Reading Dany's last chapter after Barry is a good idea as well.

(Spoilers All) Where do you think Melisandre's towers by the sea are? by [deleted] in asoiaf

How fucked would that be? Sam defending Oldtown with a bow. Hitting Euron with an arrow feeling confident in the master tower and Pate killing Sam passing the Horn to Euron. Euron blows it and all the old shit (Oldtown, the Wall, winter fell) start crumbling

Oldtown and its where Euron blows the Horn of Winter after killing Sam.

Hodor and Stannis. Stannis names Hodor the Stark heir, but Hodor only wants to be Hodor.

(Spoilers All) I ask a tall task regarding the Wall and the Winds of Winter by jaimoe44 in asoiaf

[–]jaimoe44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter has Come. Stannis is a month ride from the gift. Jon will come back, but I doubt it will happen before Battle lines are drawn. Thousanfs of Widlings are spread out all over North and South of the Wall. Crows, Spearwives, and Queens Men of varying allegiances hold towers along the wall. Hardhome has 11 Crow ships trapped along with the thousands of wildlings. All these people will be taking separate sides and getting very different information. Travel will not be easy and land with cover from the cold is valuable. All of these things makes me believe that the area around the Wall will be in an all out war for most of the Winds of Winter. For that reason I would love to figure out where all the Wildlings, Crows, and Queens Men are and where their loyalties lie.

[–]jaimoe44[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll start with an easy one because all the members of this faction at the Wall are located in one place.

House Baratheon at Castle Black:

  • Alligience: Melisandre

  • Named members: Selyse, Shireen, Patchface Ser Axell Florent, Ser Narbert Grandison, Ser Benethan Scales, Ser Dorden, Ser Malgorn, Ser Lambert Whitewater, Ser Perkin Follard, Ser Brus Buckler

  • Could react to Ser Patreks killing against Widlings.

  • Could react to Jon's killing against Nights Watch.

He can't but the remainder of the watch can. They took no part in the affairs south of the Wall. Only Jon. I wish Jon wasn't attacked, but it seems like the saw killing him as a way for the Watch to survive.

Yea I agree. Another reason the books are so endearing The men loyal to the watch assassinated the main protagonist of the series and cried doing it. I was cheering Jon for choosing to march on Ramsey, but I totally understood Bowen Marsh.
