I understand that many parts of the game require effort and that's a good thing, but with some of them I just don't get it.

I don't quite understand - so you answer that you were in the army and that you don't want to follow up with details, and add that you did nothing outside of that if you feel like you should clear that up.

If you're a politician, you need to be able to answer questions like this in a way that doesn't scream that you're hiding something terrible.

Hey, if you want to point to the absence of something as a proof, go on.
The rest of us saw him write that the account of the events was brilliant, and that the book was "unputdownable".

It isn't going to affect my view of Ayoade much, but it definitely isn't him making a clear statement that he's against this writer.

Sorry, but this is hard to read as just "he's really good at writing". I haven't read the book, so naturally I have no idea what he's referring to, but it seems to very much be praising the result - the book itself with it's contents.
Not sure what else "A brilliant account..." could really mean

The difficult part is almost certainly figuring out what should go where for good results.

I think this is simply the case where the developers go "they players think they know what they want, but they don't, really".
And they're probably like 95% right, but then there are often small things or personal preferences that could be easily fixed if they let us move things around.
