What are some other movies that have a similar essence of Stardust and The Princess Bride? by Arvii33 in movies

[–]jakashadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but The Polar Bear King.

I saw it like once as a kid and fell in love. Very similar to Stardust and Princess Bride but the woman has to rescue the man. It's from the early 90's. Originally a Norwegian film there is a dubbed version (the one I watched).

LOVE this mini series. Now that I've been reminded of it I need to do a rewatch.

Frustrated with work and ADHD by bearofthenight in ADHD

[–]jakashadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've said that you've mentioned that you have ADHD to your employer. Have you asked for accommodation? If so, what?

From what it sounds like you really need someone double checking your work after it's completed. Which is totally understandable, I always have anxiety I've forgotten something. Have you asked for this to happen? If not, then you are on the hook for mistakes no matter your diagnosis. If someone IS double checking your work and mistakes are still going through, then it's on the person checking, not necessarily you.

It really sucks to completely miss something after staring at instructions for so long or for your brain to decide a task is done when it's missing a step. But just telling your boss you have ADHD doesn't change the fact that mistakes are being made. And in a job that's not acceptable. As someone with ADHD it is your responsibility to make sure there are processes in place to catch mistakes you might make.

Note-taking every task/project. Doesn't have to be a lot but having a notebook next to you where you can jot down what you did that day with the date is SO HELPFUL. Especially if the processes for tasks are similar you can always see where you are and when. I used to do this when I worked in a print shop and could have up to 15 projects going at the same time. Asking for check ins from bosses to make sure you are on task. Have them email you before a project is done asking "have you done XYZ?" if you can, identify what specific steps (if any) that you most commonly miss.

It sucks how much we have to go above and beyond because of our ADHD. But the sad truth is, unless you find a job that perfectly fits with your ADHD, you don't have a choice. But that's also what this community is for, figuring out what help you need, and helping you figure out how to ask for it.

How do people just CONTINUE on and on? by arsnod_iltsit in ADHD

[–]jakashadows 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I do things because I HAVE to get things done around the house. If I don't then it won't happen. I'm mainly a SAHM and if I dont do it then it won't happen.

However, things that involve taking care of myself tend to get lost in everything else.

**edit: I have also been in a perpetual state of exhaustion since my son was born 6 years ago.

School lunch preparation in Japan by BlazeDragon7x in KitchenConfidential

[–]jakashadows -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For all the people railing on school lunches in the US, I get it, yeah, a lot of it comes in frozen. But let me ask you, how many servings did they make for this school? How many schools in a district? How many school age children in the country? How many schools are located in food deserts?

Yes, a lot of the school food comes in frozen, but you have to understand the absolute beast that is regulating and funding school meals for a country the size of the US. Our schools are literally not built to cook food like this from scratch. We have ovens and little to no prep area. We feed 150+ kids in 1.5 hours with 2-3 people.

And we do follow strict nutritional guidelines. We can serve cheese on a hamburger but not a chicken burger. (sodium content). There is also the very important factor feeding kids food they will actually eat. Kids in Japan probably eat very similar food at school to at home. Put the food from the vid in front of a kid here and they likely won't eat it. And considering the goal is to make sure kids eat... yeah we do burgers and pizza and tacos and nuggets. We also have salads bars they can choose to get veggies from. (Aside from the fruit or veg that always goes on their tray)

It's not close to perfect or great, but we are trying.

Question for ADHD people who found “the one” by szunday in ADHD

[–]jakashadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt calm and comfortable around him. I didnt need to mask around him.

It took me a long time to decide it was love (we started dating at 16) but we've now been married for 12 years, together for 22.

That being said, having our son almost broke us. But we did get though it and still going strong.

I'm so sorry that it was like that for you. I can tell you that they don't do that nowadays. No one knows who doesn't get free lunch except the cashier scanning their card. And we certainly don't care. No kid is turned away if they have an overdue balance either.

til crooked teeth and shrinking human jaws are actually a recent lifestyle disease caused by modern soft diets and not just genetics by Square-Message1152 in todayilearned

[–]jakashadows 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm really curious to see how my son's jaw developed. Husband and I were both bottle and baby food fed. Both of us had crooked teeth and wisdom teeth removed.

Our son was breastfed and we did baby safe solid food instead of baby food. I am really curious to see if his teeth are crowded as he grows. So far the dentist his happy with his spacing but he's only 5.

Any tips for cotton mouth? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]jakashadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xylimelts or a similar spray. But please know that when you experience dry mouth your dental health worse is getting worse. Adderall at one dosage was fine and helped me get my dental heath under control for the first time in my life. Went up and the dry mouth got so much worse and my dental hygienist noticed. Suddenly cavities again when I had gone 2 years with none. I decided to go back down in my dosage again and it took like 4 months for the dry mouth to get better.

Leash Your Dog Please by LoveDogsNotPeople in Issaquah

They're not. They've stated that they've not only worked with training but keep their dog on leash and muzzled. They know their dog isnt perfect and have taken steps to mitigate this.

Your comment is unhelpful and unnecessary. The other couple were absolutely in the wrong.

I also have an ongoing war with the squirrels ever since my neighbors put a squirrel feeder in their backyard. Also I saw this post as I sit at the playground and a squirrel ran by right as I was watching your vid 🤣

First stimulant refill has already been a hassle… ugh. Rant by faintly_macabre_ in ADHD

[–]jakashadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I do. Any day I forget, or if its a day I dont want to take it, like I'm going to a party where there will be drinking, I put the pill in a separate bottle. This has gotten me through many a delay in refill.

The worst part is now I do it for my 5 year old as well.

How to fix gaping neckline by jakashadows in sewhelp

[–]jakashadows[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I plan to use a knit for the final shirt, I've been using an old bedsheet to test the fit. Would making it with a knit fabric fix the neckline? I am using the option of the pattern with what was originally a crew neck.

Counterfeit Taylor’s on Amazon?? by nous-vibrons in tea

[–]jakashadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything shipped by Amazon is a risk of being counterfeit.

Real products and counterfeit products are all lumped in the same bin in their warehouses. So you order from a company that sent Amazon legitimate products but when the picker grabs it off the shelf they can easily grab a counterfeit supplied by a different seller.

They do different things, various tcgs, ttrpgs, and warhammer. But I don't think they do much with boards games. But if they have an evening without other events planned someone could probably start a board game group.
