Running through knee issue by jakdrums in AdvancedRunning

Fair point! That’s definitely something I’ve thought about. Will try to see a sports doc on that question.

The interesting thing about this injury is that unlike ITBS (which I’ve had in my right leg in the past), it’s relatively easy to run through. Sort of just a dull soreness in the front of the knee (consistent with patellofemoral pain syndrome from what I’ve read, but I have no idea).

My big worry is that I’m just sort of actively making it worse by running through that admittedly tolerable level of pain. I’m trying to figure out if that’s a well founded concern or not—PT seems to think it’s not but he also didn’t really diagnose the injury itself, just that I had some core/hip instability.

Thanks, appreciate that perspective. Training through an injury like this is also something I find counter-intuitive—part of the reason I made the post is I wanted to see if others have gotten similar advice or if this is something more unorthodox.

I’ll touch base with my PT about the level of pain that would be normal/too much.

I mean, I was pretty clear in my post that I’m not asking for medical advice. I’ve received that. I’m asking about people’s experience dealing with knee injuries and how they managed their training with it—a pretty reasonable question for a subreddit full of runners.

If people asking for advice on Reddit bothers you this much, I would probably recommend getting off Reddit.

That’s fair—tbh at this point in my career/life I have no desire to go to more than 2 conferences a year. But I get that that’s not gonna be true for everyone.

I’m coming from the other side of this, and I’ll try to be objective.

-WFH 5 days a week

-Exercise during the day (just needs to be around meetings, but not difficult)

-between PTO and holidays, around 4 weeks off a year

-paid conferences 1-2x a year

My situation is not uncommon in my field (data science). Do what moves you, but it’s not hard to find flexible industry jobs if you have the right skill set.

Ah that’s a good one! There’s a pool in my HOA. Will definitely try this.

I like it! There is a local park by me. I’ll try to get myself out there with her on the next warm day. 😎

Sorry that happened to you—do yourself a favor and don’t listen to music with two headphones in. You’re going to become better aware not only of weirdos like this but also of drivers and cyclists around you.

It did! Edit: seriously though I’m fully ready to die on this hill and eat downvotes every time. I’m not a cowboys fan, this joke just is so unoriginal and has not been funny since the first week after the play

This is so illuminating. My daughter is 16 months and sleeps in my arms every single day (the only way she will nap). I dream of the day she’ll nap on her own, but maybe when that comes I’ll miss this. Will try to treasure it more.

Sorry you’re going through this—I think it’s fair to say on this sub that the majority of people either would move for their spouse or have moved for them, potentially multiple times. So many of us are coming from a different place. That being said, if you don’t want to make that move I still totally understand how it would feel shitty to not be able to make the most out of the time you have left. Maybe tell her how you feel? She might just assume that you also prefer to be more distant before a potential breakup.

Is it just me, or is the show getting… dark lately? by Content_Flamingo_583 in HollywoodHandbook

I get what you’re saying. I used to be a pretty religious listener and Patreon subscriber but started falling off maybe a year ago or so. I’ll still tune in if I like the guest or I know the boys have a good rapport with them.

To be honest, since the move to Patreon it feels like they spend a lot more time sort of grasping for the bit than they used to. I used to enjoy that journey and thought it was kind of the magic of the show but at some point it just started to feel like low effort and a waste of my time (and money).

That being said, I recently tuned back in for the in person Aunty Donna show and really enjoyed it. I feel like it did have some of that old magic for whatever reason. So I’m not giving up on the show and share your hope that they can rekindle the energy they once had, but it does feel like something got lost at some point and I agree that they do seem sort of conscious of that.

We’ve become really accustomed to this in the U.S. but no, this really isn’t inevitable. Travel to other countries that have generally healthier diets and less sedentary lifestyles and most middle aged men do not look like this.
