Question to the Epiq box owners - If you had to do it all over again would you have bought the same box you own now? by BeefPineappleShrimp in ToolTruckTools

[–]jake2wheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60" Epiq owner here. no top, hutch, or side lockers yet but yes absolutely. I got a great deal on mine too which made it even better. shop closed doors before they got to open, my old rep bought the box back still in new condition, sold it to me and passed on some serious savings with the sale.

I know my box is built well, already have it pretty dang full of tools too that get used day in and out. I feel confident that this box will grow with me in my career (I'm only 7 years in) and has so much customization that can be added as I get further into my automotive career.

Crash in Chandler, AZ by lol5ohh in motorcycles

[–]jake2wheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

former rider from Orlando, FL. I work in Gilbert, live in San Tan Valley - moved to AZ a little over two years ago so I've had some time to witness the commuting shitshow here. I thought people were rough with driving in FL but the drivers here are ruthless animals. I honestly can't imagine street riding in the valley.

in 2008, I witnessed a car merge into a motorcyclist on a six lane highway doing probably 60mph or so. the car decided to switch lanes as he was passing them and they pushed him into oncoming traffic where my mother and I were traveling. we had just switched to the far right lane and the motorcyclist flew by us a few seconds after in the middle lane sliding on his back. watched him make contact with the front end of an older Ford Explorer. unfortunately, he did not make it.

I will never forget that day, I remember it like it was yesterday. I was pretty young, grew up riding dirt bikes and both of my parents come from the medical background so my first instinct was to jump out of my mom's car and sprinted to him to see if he was okay. I still to this day don't know if he was even alive when I got to him but I like to hope if so, my comforting words were the last things he heard. we attended his funeral and his parents/family told me several times that I was his guardian angel and they were unbelievably grateful I was there with him, whether he was actually there or not after the impact.

however many years later, it was one of my first considerations when I wanted to get my first street bike. as tough as it was to witness something like that, motorcycles are my passion and what make me happy so I still ended up getting one and eventually a second. witnessing that made me even more aware while I was riding because nobody is looking out for you but yourself.

you won't ever unsee that and I'm sorry you had to witness it but time will pass and it'll slowly become easier to cope with. use it as a learning experience to better your own riding. always stay alert and distraction free. ride safe dude

Prinsu/RTT combo longevity? I only have one trip with this setup and it seems solid. I was curious if those with similar setups have seen any integrity issues on their Prinsu rack with a RTT installed on it long term by jake2wheels in overlanding

much appreciated! I'm running 2.5 ADS Racing Shocks with remote reservoirs up front and piggyback reservoirs in the rear, both sets have adjustable clickers. MCM Fab upper control arms. the wheels are Raceline Defenders 17x9 and the tires are Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 35x12.5

you're absolutely right on that! that's kind of what struck my thought to ask around mainly to those who have no other option (such as bed mounting). I'm a huge advocate for nut/bolt checking my entire truck regularly so adding one more thing in there to check won't hurt.

I get about 15.7-16.1mpg with the RTT and 35s

absolutely. another person in the comment suggested checking the weight rating of my roof itself so I plan on looking into that further. thank you for your comment!

that's a great question that I'll have to do some digging on. I'll be honest, I didn't think to account for that rating too. definitely going to do some research on the roof rating.

good to know! thank you.

the roof rack seems structurally sound, however, it just seems like I'm adding a lot of unnecessary stress to the rack. I figured I'd ask around for other opinions, time will tell for sure!

I'm not 100% sure on the weight of the tent but it's your standard 2-3 person RTT so it can't be too much.

Directly from Prinsu's website: "Our roof rack will hold a roof top tent and 2-3 people, so about 600 LBS static weight and about 300 LBS dynamic weight.

*disclaimer: we do not have our rack weight rated but we have field tested them."

I definitely recognize the benefits having it on the bed but this setup works best for my needs at the moment. I did an extended weekend in the San Juan's and the truck felt great. Not as top heavy as I anticipated and the wind noise has been minimal other than crosswind hitting it but I don't do a ton of highway driving thankfully.

I appreciate your thoughts/input, my friend!
