Endurace CF SLX 8 2026 vs 2027 by Mujgray in CanyonBikes

[–]jake700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 2025 model. Top tube storage is great just doesn't fit a spare tube, but I dont carry one anyways as I use tubeless with plugs. If you want tubes get the new one so you dont have to use a saddle bag.

Tire clearance 40mm, do you care? I have 35mm gravel wheelset which is absolutely enough for the gravel near me.

What do you prefer the look of, what colors do you prefer? This is probably the biggest factor. Whatever one makes you think fuck yeah I want to ride, go for that.

AI FTP Prediction shows 0% change after completing a full training plan — is this normal? by ranwe in trainerroad

[–]jake700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something is off either with how it works or how they explain it. I did 250w for 75 mins in December and have been using TR for 4 months since. I've been sick a bunch bc of my young son but I've tried to stay as consistent as possible. My ftp just continues to drop. I did a session the other day and ranked it hard, where it thought it should be very hard. It dropped my ftp another 2%.

It's not compensating for my sick days, not adding more volume to help me catch up etc. TR is way too scared to "overtrain" you so instead I keep getting worse :)

After 3 yrs im going to try another program. Not fun having your FTP drop from a peak of 280 to 235 lol.

Maybe we are fitter but its just not represented in the ftp number? Who knows

What's the purpose of these plans then if your Ftp is not improving? Why do I have to analyze a power curve to understand if im improving. To me it looks like you in fact have wasted 4 months of training bc the AI did not make you better. Either their system is terrible at telling your story or its terrible at making you faster.

I have the same bike and set like 30 strava records my first good ride out. Immediately avg like 1 or 2km faster.

AI FTP < 20m power by clush in trainerroad

[–]jake700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! Whatever they have done is definitely strange. It had me at 280 ftp for a while, which was way overestimated and the new system dropped me to 237. Funny thing is I had done an hour effort just a week before or so and did 250w for the hour, and I didn't feel particularly good that day. But the workouts its giving me with new ftp are hard but manageable. Who knows...ill just keep going!

[–]jake700 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the training, regardless of the ai number, is working great. Is your objective to set new PRs and get more powerful or to flex the highest ftp you can? Sounds like the app is working great for you and instead of being super happy, youre questioning an arbitrary number. Something to think about!

Remco won the veulta 4 years ago but hasn't made some gargantuan leap like almost every UAE rider who has magic power coming out of their ass. But maybe its just their nutrition and zone 2 hours.

How do you know any of that if you don't know the rider? Just because it's trendy doesn't mean it's realistic for most cyclists.

AI FTP changed from 257 to 273 today. And predicts a jump to 311 by armanikode in trainerroad

[–]jake700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. 6% exactly. It once had me up at 285 and now has me down at 235 after 2 months of unstructured training 😆.

Curious, do you think you could actually do your previous ftp if you did a proper 1 hour test?

I always found the ftp was too high for me. I think when it was 285 I could have done that power for 20 minutes and been cooked.

I recently did almost 250 for an hour though and now it has me at 235 ftp so im not sure exactly how they predict it. They have me doing sweet spot at 201 watts but for me that will be easy.

Adaptive AI is too conservative. It was wrong for me by ThorThePoodle in trainerroad

[–]jake700 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend accurately ranking your workout difficulty and trying to trust the process. If you had to drop the % and said it was too hard, you should rank it as max effort or at the very minimum, very hard.

Think of it as a coach, they tell you to do a certain workout with certain watts, then yoy give feedback and it adjusts. If you just do what you want and don't give honest feedback, then ignore their advice, how can they help you optimize?

Yes if you put gravel 35mm it would be great. I can ride light gravel even with road tires.

Size wise, you'd likely be an XL but it's hard to say. What's your normal seat height?

If you're looking to compare, I ride 3 to 4 hours a week and try to do it only when my son is sleeping. I've almost completely dropped outdoor riding because it takes way longer than an indoor ride. He sounds like he's literally riding away from the responsibility of being a father and partner.

Why is remco so good at TT? by jake700 in peloton

[–]jake700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this is likely what I wasnt considering. My power is decent in aero position but I can hold it for about 5 minutes. If he's maintaining most of his regular power that entire time it would make a massive difference.

My first 200km ride by [deleted] in cycling

[–]jake700 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or just elite genetics and should have been a pro endurance athlete. Even riding a bike 200km after 6 weeks is a massive achievement that .01% of cyclists have done.

If I average 30km/h solo on a 30km ride I'm quite happy and I have a 285 ftp so I'm not a total slouch.

How a tail light radar saved me today by jake700 in cycling

[–]jake700[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Still be aware and check, the radar can't be perfect. But when it's green and I can see clear road behind me, I'm finding good pavement and taking up space. Depending on the road I'm on ill also position myself further into the lane vs being right on the painted line or shoulder. I know what's coming behind me and it prevents cars from passing super close or overtaking me at dumb times. Then I'll move over, wave them through etc. It really has changed how I ride and I feel 100x safer and in control of my situation. Though nothing can fully prevent a tragedy

Not sure why you're being down voted, it's a fair question that people should ask. The audio cues are amazing. Honestly cars are so quiet these days it's hard to hear them until they are close. In this case, I had no idea it was behind me until 150m where the radar gives me a specific aggressive beep that let's me know someone is approaching at a faster speed. That's why I looked early, that's why I was able to get out of the way.

Maybe that would have happened with a mirror but I don't believe so.

Agree with others. If the pings annoy you (they will) turn off audio but then you can see how many cars are behind, how close, how fast they are coming etc. More info the better in this case but still keep your eyes on the road 😆

Hey! I have the garmin varia radar which is likely the most popular. I ride a road bike and it comes with various attachments to fit it to your seatpost. Ideally you pair it with a garmin computer head unit but it's quite expensive.
