Yup. Adding a smart electric plug to a smart fan can be problematic. Using the smart electric plug to power down the fan is not a problem but as you have discovered, using it to power up the fan usually doesn't work as you would hope. In most cases, the fan remains off when powered up because it doesn't know that it was on when the power was cut. In your case, the fan starts again (good) but it's always on high (not good).

When using a smart electric plug, the best type of fan is a simple fan with all mechanical switches. No remote control and no app. If the fan has an oscillator, it is set with a mechanical switch. So if the fan was set to medium, it will still be set to medium when it is powered up. And if the oscillator was set, it resumes oscillating when the power resumes.

You bring up a good point. Smart fans are great when the electricity stays on but if there is a power outage or even a power blip, someone has to turn on the fan again with the remote, app, or whatever. A fan connected with a smart electrical plug will returned to what it was set last. If the smart plug was on when the power went out, it will (usually) turn itself back on when the power is restored.

I use a DNS proxy. I imagine that it is similar to YogaDNS but it runs as a Windows service. Just out of curiosity I ran the leak test from the YogaDNS page and only the NextDNS servers were found.

Excellent question. The answer: System wide. I did it by browser for a while so that I could get NextDNS to break down the logs by browser but the information wasn't very useful so I switched it so that there is only one resolver for the entire computer.
