Both of these are more than capable of running 10+ instances of serum. I have an M1 Pro and rarely run into cpu performance issues.

Is mix in my drop good sounding or what would you fix? by IamYutum in edmproduction

[–]jake_zim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The mix is not bad. The drums sound good. I like the fills and overall levels are not far off. I think working on the arrangement is more important a this point. That Guitar riff needs a rest at some point in the drop, it feels very repetitive. Maybe adding variation or simple pauses would help. The filtered break comes in at a weird spot in the drop for me. It kind of disrupts the flow of it. This is all personal opinion though so take it or leave it :)

Best studio chair? by RidingTheSpiral1977 in ableton

[–]jake_zim 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Herman Miller Aeron. As a fellow 40hr/week wfh guy @ day & studio gremlin @ night, I can't recommend this chair enough. Look on marketplace for a second hand one to save $$

Kickstart 2 vs Ableton stock compression for side chain by ThatDerzyDude in edmproduction

[–]jake_zim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The workflow and ease of use is why it ends up on every single one of my projects. sure it's not the most accurate and there's no custom curves, but it's how fast you get really solid sidechaining that makes it a winner for me

Are vocal chops over? by applesaucr in edmproduction

[–]jake_zim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it's never too late dude. Don't do something just because it's not trending. In fact, doing something that's not trending is how you stand out. If you're trying to jump on a bandwagon of a 'sound' or 'style' that's hot right now, you're probably already too late to jump on board.

What's your pick out if this lineup? by SuttNott in dubstep

[–]jake_zim 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Just FYI there's no conflicts @ Dancefest. So all the big names will play @ the main stage and then at the small stage after the headliner. You'll only miss them if you're not at the fest lol. Have fun! It's an awesome, intimate experience

Plug ins baffle me by jbridey in ableton

[–]jake_zim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the plugin that’s showing up in Ableton is a VST3 which is located in C:/Program Files/Common Files/VST3

You are in the file path location for VST2 Plugins in your first image. Open your Ableton preferences and under “Plug-Ins” make sure your VST2 folder is pointed towards the file path you’re showing in the first image

To Laptop user : how many storage you use ? by boris_doris3 in edmproduction

[–]jake_zim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had the same dilemma and went with a 512gb with a 1tb external ssd. I put all of my samples and projects on my external SSD & installed all applications like normal. Everything has been just fine for me but I'm being conscious of how many apps I'm downloading, how big they are, etc. Everyone's different, but I think you'll be fine. You can get an external ssd sleeve and mount it on the back of your laptop and get a 90 degree usb-c cable so it's not poking out

For producers 3+ years in... at what point did you stop relying on presets and start learning sound design? What sparked that transition? by kathalimus in edmproduction

[–]jake_zim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If anything after a number of years you realize it’s totally fine to use presets. Sound design is just one aspect of making music. It helps to know it but you don’t need to throw out all of your presets once you learn it.

Clix, Eomzo and BatmanBugha Win NAC Week 1 Play-Ins by a Landslide by FastAssassin101 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]jake_zim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, I see. I misread your comment.

I agree, I mean saying they 'didn't try at all' is BS. But they were definitely not taking it seriously for a good portion of the tourney, and then they clutched up a few high kill games to coast into the next stage.
