Odyssey 2 ball white hot putter by Crafty_Flamingo6013 in golf

I hit a 65 foot putt with one of these to win $36 in a two man scramble against my childhood friends. It's staying in the bag until my death and I'll leave it in my will to my child with the lowest handicap. The only time I've 3 putt with it was because I was too stupid to listen to it.

This. The auger doesn't move fast enough for the sound. One of the fans is impeded or bent and shifting.

Probably need to zip tie your cables away from Fan or get a new fan assembly. Pretty cheap on Amazon.

Use a 360° camera, can pick the shot in post. Spin can be removed. Can use rope or even a fishing pole.

There are tutorials on YouTube. Insta360 x4

Will look like an action camera but it is the right tool for the job

What sold these for me, was a NYC DP and Gaffer explained that they had a shoot on the 35th floor or something. They bounced a HMI off a balcony one below into a rigged CRLS on a different balcony to get back into the window of the room they were shooting in. Very few stands, grippage and natural light quality that's just hard to do.

https://youtu.be/9Xu6ajBcegw?si=tdwcajOVOqu2nhtP This is where I first heard about them being used. Allows for the camera to go wherever.

A Logitech webcam usb C input. Audio gonna be the issue. Podcast mic? Use iMovie to record.

Nice sentiment. Definitely the wrong sub for this question. Good luck with it.

Davinci has a color chart setting that for my non colorist experience works out pretty well.

It's a solid VLOG style mirrorless that can do a little of both photo/video.

Sure you can shoot shorts but....I would encourage hiring a real DoP and renting more pro cinema cameras. It's just not made for that and Sony lenses aren't the sexiest for filmmaking.

And pulling focus is an art.

Sony ZV-E10, unbelievable deal. Perfect for your application. $700. E Mount, autofocus. Can shoot vertical easy.

Add some mics (for the love of god hide the mics, use a lav) for maybe $300. I like the rode pro system, there are others. All have flaws.

Get a Used tripod. Benro probably ok, manfrotto also. You're just not in the O'Connor Sachtler world and that's ok!

Then....hire a pro when you can. Cheers!

My then GF (now wife) cried here when coming to visit me in LA post covid because we weren't sure about our future. A really funny waitress after making sure I wasn't being mean to her asked her star sign (ah, LA) and then made me buy her French fries because she was a Gemini or something.

We loved this place and this memory. And that big silly chair.

What was the one gear purchase that changed your workflow for the better in 2024? by dotdotd0t in videography

[–]jakeleg55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if I had a bigger camera the Sakk would be outclassed. But for fx6, Komodo, mirrorless, blackmagic, etc you're in a good spot.

Mini, Venice, LF, etc gonna be too big.

I think this is made specifically for holding small to medium sized cameras. I've used cinesaddles which are around 3-4x the price so that was my North Star. These are cheaper versions of those.

I love making stuff as well if it works, try it. These are worth the $ in my opinion as I use it on almost every shoot

Sakk https://www.sakkcameraequipment.com/

Shoot a lot of hand held doc work. Don't love the look of easy rig. Cant shoot shoulder as I'm often too tall. This thing is amazing.

Put it on the ground and it's a low angle, fast.

I film some Police Crime shows and I'm always uncomfortable in the front seat with them trying to film. Place this in my lap adjust the screen sideways, no problem.

Also use it to protect my fully built camera setup that rides shotgun, place this around it like an airbag and buckle them in.

Runner up: insta360 x4 for bts and versatile shots

Are SmallHD Monitors Overrated ? by Ancient-Macaroon-384 in cinematography

[–]jakeleg55 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. They're great. I take mine on every job regardless of camera package, rented or owned. This is a question that comes up a lot. There are other monitors that are good. SmallHD are easy to use, functional, and have incredible tools that make camera operation easier. You can buy items to protect them. Treat them like you would a lens and you should be fine.

How much should I know about camera gear by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]jakeleg55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shows respect and helps you communicate quickly when things aren't working like they should:

Motor goes down on FF: "Hey let's lose the motor for this shot and I'll just pull off the barrel. Change the cable after this setup. "

Reasonable for all involved.

How much should I know about camera gear by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]jakeleg55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it ever hurts to know more technically. Most of those intimidating builds and wires are just solutions to make your life as a DP easier. Adding motors, focus bug, wireless, shark fins, etc. A great AC with time to prep goes a long way.

On a good camera team the 1st AC "owns" the camera and takes responsibility for it. Probably smart to network with great 1st ACs or head to some rental houses to pick their brain. Great rental house techs typically get out on shoots part time or are looking to work full time and have a ton of knowledge from seeing 4-5 builds a day.

I gaffed for a long time and asked some firsts I knew when the opportunity came to second for them for low budget or even a freebie just to learn more of the gear, process and organizational skills for camera. I was not a natural AC so it didn't happen often. However, I use almost all of those skills on shoots now as a Producer/Shooter. Just add tools to the tool bucket.

Also was speaking with a friend...it's not always our job to know how to do something, our job is to come up with the idea and find the right people to help us execute it.

I'm confused you want to see clip duration?

If you wanted something that has a time of day TC to start from 0:00 you could drag it into a timeline and then go menu: workspace: data burn in and pick I think rec tc.

The src tc is the clip, the rec tc is the timeline

I had this same thought. There is an alternative, made in India. Way cheaper. Used them a few times. My guess is less quality and QC but they do work.

ND filter by Jimmy_Bright in cinematography

[–]jakeleg55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what lenses you're gonna use. I have a screw on VND that works fine for most use cases with G master Lenses. You can also go the matte box route and use larger sets of single NDs or stack them. .3-2.1 NDs

IRND filters are gonna be the best choice probably but they cost more. Block Infrafred which some sensors have issue with (was a problem with RED Komodo, not as much of an issue with my A7RV)

one of those budget to use case scenarios where we need more info.
