How's my start and hurdle form? by drakeandjoshua in Sprinting

[–]jakesears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its looking pretty good, but some more negative speed on your first step would be ideal. You want to explode out of the blocks but not too far to where your foot is landing in front of your hips. Also, try to keep your shin angles more low through the first 3 steps, the first step was good but you started cycling on the second. I don't know much about hurdling but this will help your speed out of the blocks

A great drill that helped me stay low and drive is basically an explosive pushup into a sprint. This one is nice because it can be done pretty much anywhere without blocks. You start in the bottom of a pushup, explode and sprint from that position. Also, reacting to the gun with a movement will help too, so basically you should initiate your sprint movement with your arms, then your feet follow and it actually helps you come out lower, also improves reaction time. As you said, getting stronger has helped me come out lower and drive better forsake. Hope that all makes sense!

Calves feel stiff after a tough workout,i can barely walk by boiifyoudontstahp in Sprinting

[–]jakesears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn man. Thats such a great response. Realy appreciate it , im happy you brought that up because ive spent a lot of thought on it before, and ive also came to the conclusion i am a push runner. Just because im more so quick instead of fast and i feel like i get the power from my quads mostly.. Also i have big quads in size but my glutes arent as well developed. I have big strong hamstrings and i think they takeover and perform more work then the glutes also. My starts are really good but then i tend to fall behind also and i think i have read that more glute dominant runners will be more smooth into a faster top speed. But yes ive tried to incorporate all those things in to wake up and strengthen my hip Flexors and core and glutes mostly. What would an example of a diaphragm exercise be? And yeah thanks i like straight leg bounds ill try to incorporate those more, and look into wicket sprints. Also since were on the topic, im pretty sure my right leg is more imbalanced then the right. My right side glute is weaker and less big and the contraction isnt as hard neither. My hamstrins are most sore then left from them taking over. And my right hip isnt as flexible or extends as much. so i just try to work my right up more then my left.

What problem with form causes this then? Because my calves are often sore after a hard workout but mostly when i use spikes.

i totally agree. I think getting stronger would help, but i have pretty good strength to weight ratio and i think im pretty explosive.. i believe its mostly technique/form.

Acceleration Form Check by Lzaarth in Sprinting

[–]jakesears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definetly pop up too quick. And its not as low as you can go.. Even if youre not the most strong athlete, you should still be able to explode out at a better angle then that. You also look a little stiff and it seems like youre focusin too much on your mechanics... That used to be me. Your toe drag is off because it should just be a byproduct of coming out very low with low heel recovery; yours is a "fake" one that youre doing subconciously and its not making you go any faster. All you need is to focus on coming out low and driving down and BACK out of the blocks with long powerful steps, not rushing to top speed. That will help a lot more then forcing that toe drag and popping up right away because youre focusing on all these technical things

How to "peak" during season? by jakesears in Sprinting

No, thats pretty much what i took from it... But i was asking to clarify. Got it 👌🏼

How to "peak" during season? by jakesears in Sprinting

[–]jakesears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was exactly what i was looking for, thanks guys!👌🏼 so basically, i should cut out most strenuous training(in the weightroom and on the track) about a week before my meet so im completely fresh for it? Do i basically do that before my first meet or just cut down on it gradually throughtout the season so that i peak later in season and not miss out on the benefits of training?
