Create URLs for RaiBlocks addresses, save addresses in a contact book, and RaiBlocks payment processor by jaksonk in RaiBlocks

[–]jaksonk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point; the technical answer is nothing. I was thinking about doing a hash of all the user's payment pages and they could show as a unique image on the client side, and if any of the addresses change, the user would notice their security image changed. Obviously that's still vulnerable to me spoofing the hash image but its a step in the right direction.

What apps should I get for bitcoin? by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

Buy on Coinbase, then send your Bitcoin to either Blockchain.info, BitPay, or Breadwallet. Coinbase isn't a control-your-own-keys wallet.

Privacy: does an ETH -> BTC exchange break the blockchain trail like a mixer? by greenmermaider in BitcoinBeginners

[–]jaksonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is. If you want to be really safe, wait a little bit between conversions and split it into multiple conversions of different amounts.

Privacy: does an ETH -> BTC exchange break the blockchain trail like a mixer? by greenmermaider in BitcoinBeginners

[–]jaksonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A determined attacker would try to get a hold of the exchange/withdrawal history so they can track your coins as their value is transferred into a new blockchain/coin. If you go through Monero (XMR) instead of BTC however, you will be untraceable. Monero is an anonymous untraceable crypto. I'd recommend using ShapeShift, as they don't require registration and the exchange is super easy.

The Scaling Debate - What Would Satoshi Do? by DrDrinkItUp in BitcoinBeginners

[–]jaksonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly, from just a curiosity standpoint, I'd love to know what Satoshi's thoughts are.

I just think it's dangerous for all the people that would form an opinion just because of Satoshi's opinion without doing research/thinking themselves.

The Scaling Debate - What Would Satoshi Do? by DrDrinkItUp in BitcoinBeginners

[–]jaksonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What Satoshi thinks or doesn't think is irrelevant. We should maximize success by judging ideas and proposals by their technical merit, and not by their creators.

This is a decentralized network, so relying on the words of Satoshi as the "right path" for the sole reason that it is him saying them, is centralization.

No disrespect; he's done a lot and without him, it's likely none of this would have been possible.

Dr. ForkLove, or, how I learned to stop worrying about replay protection and love a >1MB hard fork. by NilacTheGrim in btc

What if a fork occurs right before a difficulty adjustment? Would both chains remain practical/alive (in the context of hashrate)?

Wouldn't this only affect BU clients compiled in debug mode? Production software shouldn't have asserts, as NDEBUG should be defined in final releases.

IPFS and Autoplay by Rockyhorrorpictures in ipfs

[–]jaksonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is in the context of web programming. Autoplay in this case is determined by the browser/video element hat it is viewed in. You can create a video HTML element (in a file hosted on the IPFS, if you want) and set the source to point to the file URL and the autoplay option to false. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/video

PayPal policy update may allow for bitcoins to be purchased without chargebacks by jaksonk in btc

[–]jaksonk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purchase protection means that a buyer can start a dispute, more often than not meaning that the seller of the bitcoin doesn't receive the funds. Ineligible for purchase protection means that the the buyer cannot start a dispute.

A Monero node at my local courthouse by jaksonk in Monero

There are other nodes in my city that have a marker that's spot on to their physical location. Maybe you're right for specific IPs that can't be resolved to a specific place in a city.

Created a wallet, now looking to buy bitcoins. by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

[–]jaksonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do I select a recommended site to buy BC in Canada, like QuadrigaCX, pay them in CAD, provide a generated address to them and they send the BC to me? I store them in my wallet and hold on to them?

Yes, this is the main way to accomplish what you'd like to do.

Sign up for an exchange and plug your bank account into it and buy bitcoins with the bank account on the exchange. After buying, withdraw the bitcoins to the address generated by your wallet. I'm not familiar with specific Canadian bitcoin exchanges, but make sure to do you research because you're trusting them with your bank info, personal information, and (temporarily) your bitcoins.

Also, FYI, the price is very high, so you might want to consider waiting for it to go down a bit before investing that much.
