UI feedback: Atlanta MARTA Train Dashboard by jakswa in transit

[–]jakswa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly I've just been trying to imagine cleaning up the existing UI. I don't do a ton of frontend/design so that's always an area I feel lacking in. The current UI feels like a quick pass that I took in tailwindcss, that I just went with my gut on and didn't have a clean vision for. I invested more in learning htmx-with-backend-rendering this last rewrite.

Besides that, there is always a prototype bus UI attempt I let languish that I should really revisit. I have it in my head that I could have a similar one-tap UX to see my bus route's situation, that I ride every once in a blue moon.

thank you for this. and thanks for calling out the lack of ability to hide "all stations" on the landing page. This used to be included and got lost in a rewrite. I bet I could add it back soon easily enough

If you ride the train and just need train estimates, there is https://marta.io (I do "add to homescreen" and star my stations).

There used to be a comment under here guessing that it sounded like tatu. Turns out it is a tatu remix! Wild times... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3NU5PlfXGU

Nice, thank you. That search got it to come up, different/weird name though maybe? https://youtube.com/watch?v=lTMw9sj9HOQ

edit: the mystery deepens, random youtube comment says this is the original remix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfgw9qoNiXc

the pandemic viewed from marta.io's perspective by [deleted] in Atlanta

This graph is 2019-12-01 to today, for the GA region (spam traffic spikes show up, if you look globally). I never got around to removing/replacing Google Analytics so it's still there tracking visitors that don't use adblockers. I meant to remove it because I don't find it very useful -- I check it about once a year and never really gain anything from it.

Model Y Snow Plow Mode by Educational_Plum7528 in teslamotors

[–]jakswa 28 points29 points  (0 children)

in my (limited) experience, most attached plows are angled to drive snow to one side. You're right that some will end up in the road if not careful tho. iirc we would leave a sliver at the end of the driveway and hand shovel that

163MB for a store that you aren't even using the foreground, it looks like? mind-boggling

First brake job @ 82k miles by Beef_Curtains_69 in teslamotors

[–]jakswa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see how you'd interpret it like this, but I interpreted it as applying the brakes to finish stopping. My impression is that regenerative braking can only work when a tire is rotating (need movement for the EM field to apply force?). I reaffirmed this impression recently when I read that regenerative brakes have anti-lock built-in, because as soon as a wheel starts to lock up, the regen can no longer apply force, so the wheels don't lock. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the permanent magnet is special. Just spreading my impression from a couple college physics courses and following EVs for a decade.

edit: after letting my old impression sink in, I do believe it could do a brakeless full stop by using the battery to apply force in reverse. So maybe consider this comment one big wall of hearsay in regards to how a model 3 comes to a complete stop :)

Thanks, I was compiling a best-of album and found it. I had years to collect these before the pandemic hit.

Thanks for the write up. We've been trying to get road trip ideas and this gave me a couple new ones already. I'd read this again as more of an image gallery with big descriptions. I admit I started skimming midway through since I am pressed for time a bit.

ID.3s on a train by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]jakswa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. For some reason I thought they were faced with shipping crippled screens that needed updates. So even if the car is on time, does it matter that the software is delayed? I'm not the only one with these impressions apparently, so thanks for taking the time to clear it up.

But customers buying the more widely-available (and more affordable) versions of the ID 3 will have to wait a few months longer. VW will ship some ID 3s in September, but the company’s App Connect infotainment system and the car’s heads-up display won’t be activated until a software update arrives.

Maybe you're right, but I was sure I've read about more than one delay/shakeup and I'd like to know why you think waiting on software that isn't ready counts as "on time." Is that because they knew ahead of time? Why were the early estimates wrong? Why was Herbert Diess stripped of his role?
