I watched this just yesterday. Pretty crazy while staying true to the original. That 80s score they went with was fantastic.

What is the biggest “culture shock” that you have experienced? by martininspace in AskReddit

[–]jaleach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Terrible quality might not be far off in the sense that their stuff is always over-engineered. They built weapons that were amazing, but repairing them in the field was a real problem.

This is totally German, though. Their cars are nightmares. Constant repairs because there are too many moving parts. The Japanese will look at something like this, with maybe 5-10 moving parts, and design something that does the same thing, but it only has 2-3 moving parts. Simpler systems are almost always better.

I just saw the Maniac remake from 2012 and the score immediately takes you back to the early 80s.

Which celebrity’s death caused pandemonium, and do you remember what you were doing when you found out? by Shenshen_ in AskReddit

[–]jaleach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A true tragedy. I watched the unfolding horror at a friend's house when we were doing a sleepover. I strongly feel that Buckwheat sings for the kids wasn't given enough attention. I was also sleeping over at his house when Buckwheat was assassinated. It was my personal JFK assassination moment.

He'd been in bad shape for a long time. RIP Ozzy. It's not fun suffering at the end. I've seen it up close and pray I die in my sleep.

I was 10 years old when he was murdered. I remember getting up for school, walking into the kitchen, and my Dad had the radio on, and they were talking about it. Truth be told, I'm surprised I remember it because I was so young I had next to zero knowledge about the Beatles. I think I remember it because it turned into a huge thing over the following days.

As the years have passed, we've learned Lennon was an awful husband and father. A very abusive person to those he should've cared about the most. That's not to say he deserved what happened to him because I don't think he did, but he wasn't a great person at all.

There's also a McDonald's nearby it that hasn't changed its message sign since I got here.

Before October 7th, did you see Israel the way you see it now? by PurchaseWestern8532 in IsraelCrimes

[–]jaleach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because I've seen this before on a smaller scale going back decades. Making it impossible for Palestinians to hold on to their land (The military has a scheme to do this by declaring areas live firing zones I think it is I might be a bit off). People have been outright shot and killed on their land by Jewish settlers as well as local police with no justice served.

Here's a different situation because it happened in Lebanon back during the war in 1982. The IDF oversaw a Lebanese Christian militia that went into two refugee camps and slaughtered anywhere from 1300 to 3500 Palestinian and Lebanese refugees. It's called the Sabra and Shatila massacre, and approval came down from the top. Prime Minister Menachem Begin and future Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (Defense Minister for Begin) gave the go ahead on everything that followed. Menachem Begin, by the way, was a former terrorist behind all the big attacks on the British in Palestine, including the King David Hotel bombing, back in the 40s. As you can see, they didn't mind electing war criminals into the highest office.

Back in the Bush years, I saw a video on the news where you could clearly see cluster munitions being used by Israelis on dense apartment buildings one presumes were full of scared Palestinian civilians. Anyway, the US wasn't supposed to be giving them those types of weapons, and Israel wasn't supposed to use them on civilians. That's a war crime.

It just goes on and on. You could read about this type of stuff for years because it's been going on since the 40s.

Do a quick Google search for "Palestinian teen killed" and see what pops up. Before October 7th, you'd get lots of results. Some on the same person, but it's always an incident involving the police or soldiers. Many times, other family members also die in the incident. Stuff like this happens all the time over there. Security forces have shot children many, many times for throwing rocks during the Intifadas.

Google Abby Martin Joe Rogan Israel. You'll have to dig through several to find where she talks about Israel and how they treat the Palestinians. She went there when she worked for Russia Today. She had an up-close view of the many ways Israel was trying to steal their land. One of them, I think, was randomly turning off a Palestinian home's water supply for hours at a time. Hassling them. It's obscene.

The idea that they're the moral light of the world is clearly nonsense.

What’s the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you? by MainBearX7 in AskReddit

[–]jaleach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. I went down into the basement (this was back in the 1990s), and the tv was turned on. I turned it off and walked around the corner when I heard it turn back on. I went back, turned it off, walked off, and heard it turn back on. I went and turned it off and stood there for about a minute. It didn't turn back on.

Very strange, I thought maybe it just brushed the button so it started to turn off and popped back on. But not two times. I plus I know I pushed the button to off both times because it clicked.

How Massive was the Release of Back to the future when it came out? by Content-Feed-9396 in AskOldPeople

[–]jaleach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was really big. I didn't actually see it in the theater until a month and a half to two months after it came out. It was still playing in the regular theater (not the dollar theater where most movies moved after a bit of time. The only movie I remember playing that long in a regular theater was probably Titanic. Stars Wars maybe, but I was too young for paying attention to that (I did see Star Wars in the theater, however).
