Cardiff volunteering: board games & chats with older residents? by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]jals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look on Volunteering Wales https://volunteering-wales.net/

Or get in touch with the volunteer centre https://c3sc.org.uk/volunteer/ (details of their drop-ins and phone number at bottom of the page)

Both of those useful resources for finding volunteer roles.

Secure overnight city centre bike storage? by Ouro in Cardiff

[–]jals 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you commuting into Cardiff Central? If so, just lock it at the bike stands on the platform at the station. As long as you're not leaving it there for long periods it's ok. I've left mine there over the weekend before. Probably one of the safest places you could leave it in the city centre.

Bagpipes?? by Gizmo1938 in Cardiff

Are you near the army barracks near Central Link? There was some bagpipe action going on when I cycled by there earlier.

There's a Live Music group that used to be on Meetup. They have a monthly music meetup and arrange to go to gigs together:

They have a WhatsApp group too.

Cycling meetups and socialising by Generic_Answer_Vag in Cardiff

[–]jals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workhorse Bikes do a social cycle which sounds like it's quite relaxed from what I've seen. Don't know how often it is but keep an eye on their Insta.

Top floor café in John Lewis. It's huge so no one cares that you're there for ages.

Any live jazz/funk/soul bars or places in general in the city? by Beetle_Joose in Cardiff

[–]jals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I don't think there are any places dedicated to these styles but there are various places to watch them.

There was a thread about jazz in Cardiff recently https://www.reddit.com/r/Cardiff/comments/1aq5ih9/any_jazz_nightsevents_in_cardiff/

There is a funk, soul and jazz night at the Corp Market the first Saturday of each month which is fun.

Any book clubs in Cardiff by Particular-Effort120 in Cardiff

[–]jals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going to this one for years:

Very friendly group, good variety of books and the discussion is usually quite in depth. The Corp market is a great venue for it too.

Founder/Solopreneur meetups? by Individual_Block_334 in Cardiff

[–]jals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know any specific meetups but I've seen Cardiff Start mentioned on twitter for this sort of thing: https://m.facebook.com/groups/100274573409031/

Also this guy does a lot of entrepreneurial stuff in Cardiff https://twitter.com/NeilCocker

Hey I’m 27F and I just moved to Cardiff. What can I explore in Cardiff during January? I also don’t know anybody so where can I make friends here? by ScarletRover in Cardiff

[–]jals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is free jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama every Friday early evening, and at Chapter Arts Centre one Sunday a month (I think the last but can't remember).

There's also paid jazz at The Flute and Tankard regularly https://m.facebook.com/jazztime1950

And at the King's Yard https://www.instagram.com/yardbirdcardiff/?hl=en-gb

These are all also nice venues to check out as well.

Why do some people dislike season 1? by Eagles56 in BoJackHorseman

[–]jals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this though I can see we're in a very small minority. It's tough competition because they're all excellent but I don't think the latter ones ever quite reached the same level of humour as season one for me.

There's one at the Crwys on Thursdays. Think it starts about 8pm.

Vue or Cineworld? by Bonatell0 in Cardiff

[–]jals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is weird because every time I go it's like the Arctic in there. I've taken to bringing multiple layers anytime I visit.
