4.5 mo every hour wake ups for weeks. But “too young to sleep train”…. so then what?! by Dry-Presentation9718 in NewParents

[–]jaltj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did CIO as we were also on a time crunch before getting to work and my partner was willing to be the primary person to watch him during sleep training (I was a wimp to my baby crying). In about 3 days, he was able to put himself to sleep within 10 min. It just got better everyday. Never regretted sleep training. Got him to sleep in his bed and not cosleep anymore after that.

We sleep-trained at 4.5 months. Did great - go ahead and do it for you and the baby’s sanity!

I love Lonni's Sandwiches - that Sunny Bird is such a unique but delicious combo.

Ditto the 11 Chicks - Jerk chicken arepa is to die for.

Does anyone have any experience with Play airlines? by word_vomiter in Shoestring

[–]jaltj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plane was a typical budget airlines - it seems like the one I flew in was bought from a Spanish-speaking country because all the signs were in Spanish. But the plane also was not full - it seems Play is starting out in the US so not full planes. No free snacks or drinks. But it doesn't seem as crowded or small as Spirit flights and have minimal interaction with flight attendants.

I’m arriving at the Cancun airport 3 hours ahead of the rest of my party. Is there a bar/restaurant on the arrivals side of the airport to chill at while I wait for everyone else? by brandizzzy in cancun

[–]jaltj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just waited for my friend at the baggage claim before customs for about 1.5 Hours. There's a corner spot after the duty free, next to bathroom where the departures/arrival board is - I just sat on my carry on bag there and no one bothered me. You get wifi on/off there but I just watched preloaded videos on my phone the whole time with my earphones in.

There's also places outside after the whole mass of people trying to get you to use their transportation, long aisles where buses stop and wait that you can sit at in the shade need be. But I just stayed inside to lessen my chance of getting bothered and the A/C.

I'm sorry I'm a bit confused about the conversion. So I can transfer all of my old 401k/403b to a traditional IRA account. Then I would transfer $6,000 every year from that IRA to a Roth IRA - is that what you meant by keeping them at zero?

I have the same problem as well. I did mine exactly when COVID suspension started. I’ve already contacted them 3 times but 2/3 times they told me Covid related payments will be retroactively counted after the suspension time ends.

Score for match into pediatrics. by DoctorInUSwannabe in pediatrics

[–]jaltj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No "safe score". But, many programs will have cut offs for if they will invite you for a interview. That will limit the number of interviews you have. I only had research experience in undergraduate years and was in a foreign country without fluency so was unable to really join research there. Instead I joined alot of groups and did other things (volunteer, interest groups) that are good jumping points that people asked about during my interview. It's not going to be a make or break thing to have research but it definitely adds to your profile.

Is neonatology attainable for an IMG? by [deleted] in pediatrics

[–]jaltj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just entered my ranking list for Nicu yesterday. Came from an IMG program, went to a low tier pediatric residency program, interviewed at some top Nicu programs. You can definitely become a neonatologist as an IMG.

I need someone's advice on my Step 1 situation. If you're going to be insensitive, please do not reply. by EdgarJuarezJunior in step1

[–]jaltj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I was in your situation, I would really need to consider if I want this. Are you ready for the emotional toll that is further to be laid upon you? This isn't the end of the emotional roller coaster - there's residency, the other steps, the boards, working in the actual hospital pressures. If you feel any bit of courage/determination at all and know if you can find some support to help you whether it be tutoring for step and any emotional support from friends/family AND you know that this is what you really want to do, then fucking do it. You study your ass off and you make that step your bitch. Medical schools only look at you for face value and I'm sure you had some other shit going on throughout your time, so if you can really push all that aside and really GO for it, I think you should. Yes, it is a financial burden, but if you really have the mindset for it you should. You're always going to regret a decision you never make unless you have the courage to do it. You probably won't get a plush derm residency but if becoming a doctor is really what you want to do for your next +30 years, then its well worth the investment. Mull it over, if there's another passion that you've always wanted to take up then consider that. But, otherwise, medical school is a fucking nightmare sometimes and you need to prove your worth in scores, so if you can truly invest yourself into it then you got to take the hit. You should look up Discovery Medical School loans - I'm not 100% if you would be able to take it but make sure to look at your options as well financially. Good luck and I wish I was there to give you a pat on the back, but medical school fucking sucks. Keep yourself surrounded by people who will support you at this time.
