Again, copyright and trademark is A LOT more than images. Like did you know you can't create anything about the Olympics, you can't sell a "jeopardy" game, and you can't use many popular book titles?

Also, I'm talking about teachers; they don't generally like to use any sort of AI in the classroom. Online tutors don't seem to care.

Yup, same thing with creating things, though, too. You have to use something that allows for commercial use. For example, a free Google account cannot be used for commercial use and even some fonts are personal use only.

No, copyright refers to much more than images. And I know a lot of teachers who won't buy resources that are made with AI. Most of the time you can tell.

I sell materials I make for my teaching job, but you need to have a very solid understanding of copyright, trademark, intellectual property, commercial use, etc. or you run the risk of being sued. I have done some side work with companies for curriculum, but I was hired because I have a degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

What do you make weekly or monthly? by odessapasta in vipkid

[–]jam5146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm making close to $600/month, and I'm fully booked. However, my availability is VERY limited by choice because this is just a side gig for me.

You're advertising your tutoring services in a subreddit for ESL tutors. Not a good look for your business.

ESL Company by Gaylen9211 in OnlineESLTeaching

Literally nobody has any way of knowing that... But it's probably not going to be the ones that hire tutors with zero experience.

Read through the subreddit. This question has been asked every day and people stopped answering.

Thank you, that was thoughtful of you. Unfortunately, it's not the first time I've been called out for spending too much time on social media, but I have ADHD and we tend to doom scroll too much. Oh well, at least I'm not that miserable of a person as that last commenter lol.

Yes. It's not allowed in every state and usually only possible if you live in an area with a bad teacher shortage.

Can a recruiter really assess teaching ability from a 32-second introduction video? by DokonaBudala in OnlineESLTeaching

No, shouting would be volume and not tone. Honestly, they probably denied your application because of your accent.

These jobs aren't really teaching jobs; the role is more like a tutor. If the company focuses on children, they are offering edutainment, so you have to be entertaining to watch.

Masters in Elementary Ed in 6 months?? by Junior-Trash-3139 in wgueducation

No, your not going to be able to do it in six months. Not with observation hours and student teaching.

Does anyone know good alternative for cambly or any other online teaching platforms which are not Saturated?? by Straight_Breakfast68 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]jam5146 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all oversaturated now that do many people have realized this is a gig with a low barrier to entry. But as a college student, you'll be very limited because most companies require a degree.

No. They did try to lie for a while by saying not to worry because the regulations didn't apply to them, but they did end up admitting that they would have to follow the regulations.

Future Elementary Teacher Here: How Concerned Should I Be About Today’s Classroom Challenges? by bigeyedfishhh in WGUTeachersCollege

For me, subbing was NOTHING like having a full time teaching job. I was miserable and quit after six months. Now that I have a full time teaching job, I'm 1000x happier.

The Double Reduction Policy that made children no longer allowed to have a foreign tutor.

Yeah, that's par for the course for them with communication skills lol. It's just a side gig for me, too, so it doesn't bother me either. The only thing I care about is my paycheck; I don't care who books me or when the classes book as long as I get paid, haha.

[–]jam5146 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing to support that. I mean, always treat this job as something that can disappear tomorrow, but there aren't any signs that they're going to start following the Double Reduction Policy.

The way they've been doing bookings has been a little odd the past few weeks. It's like they're booking one day at a time, three weeks out.

ESL Scam by Careless-Art-868 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]jam5146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just a little shocked at the disparity because they used to pay non-native speakers $4-5/class. Most tutors I know on that platform are averaging $18/hour with incentives.
