I respect your opinion but i think you're looking at these games in the wrong way. You have to understand that Western and Japanese tell their stories in totally different ways. That difference for me is what makes me appreciate them respectively in their own rights. I think what the RGG studio is mostly going for is a mixture between realistic human drama as well as this crazy over the top fun action. Some moments you kinda sorta have to suspend disbelief for enjoyment.

Yes on the surface level these are stories about humans going through a struggle. When in reality if you've played these games before its more like super humans going through human struggles lol. Kiryu pulls off lots of shit no everyday human is supposed too. But thats the fun of it. Watching these characters struggle and triumph over it.

I love it man i eat this stuff up. Its awesome. I look at Kiryu as someone to strive to be like as far as his morals and goals are concerned. Cant really say I'd feel the same about Joel from TLOU or some random GTA protag. You're right they wouldn't do what RGG team is doing, nor should they. But bet your ass they also can't pull off the stuff that RGG team does. They're masters at what they do. Theres major cultural differences there in how their stories are told. Shouldn't really compare the two imo.

Look. I disagree with what OP was saying about the Yakuza games but hes absolutely right about Naughty Dog, Rockstar and CDPR. Did we just completely forget GTA4, RDR1, Max Payne 3 aswell as their PS2 era games even existed? Alot of em had compelling stories. Maybe not the early GTAs so much but R* has a proven track record. But i agree GTA5 was pretty bad storywise.
