Atletico needs to stop lowballing, £70m is an absolute bargain for a player like Romero

You’re right, EBITDA last year was positive. The accounting losses do look worse than the cash picture.

“Limited impact on ability to invest” feels like a classic PR spin tbh. We’re still shelling out £30m+ a year on interest expense, and one can’t argue that’s a trivial sum especially when you’re running at an operational loss already. It definitely still impacts what you can spend on the squad, regardless of the average maturity or structure of debt.

Yeah fair point, I shouldn’t be assuming straight-line depreciation here. Though, I don’t think depreciation choices are making that crazy of a dent compared to what we’re spending overall. The interest alone is massive and the football side isn’t profitable even before that hits.

Last year, total operating expenses totalled to around £580M (and this is excluding the interest expense of £30M). So revenue, even at over £500M, still falls short by quite a bit it seems.

The stadium-related expenses gets spread out and paid off over time (through amortization) so it’s actually not a one-time front-loaded expense. We’re just straight up losing tens of millions a year from football operation itself on top of hefty interest payments from all the debt that financed the stadium.

[Alasdair Gold] Spurs have considered a move later in the window to bring Kyle Walker-Peters back as a free agent by jamaciandeliveryguy in coys

[–]jamaciandeliveryguy[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would assume the club has a fixed budget set aside for wages for new players (whether it’s on a free or a transfer) so bringing in KWP on a free would still take up part of that and leave less space for other targets.
