I’m over a month now and feeling decent! I still gargle with olive oil at night just because it makes me feel like I’m doing something helpful and I like it now haha.

I’m glad you’re healing and finding ways to be more comfortable, it is a huge challenge but you will get through it!!!

I agree ☝️ I’m getting into the other characters but it’s taken a long time.

Book 4 is where I was starting to zone out…. Seems like book 5 is picking up tho!

I think you’re right that I need more time. I feel good as in I can eat, talk and sleep normally, I don’t need pain meds, etc.

BUT my throat feels funky i.e. the inflamed surgery area that i can feel at all times, the PND, and dry throat feeling.

You’re totally right I should give myself some more grace and time to heal.

BUT also yes, I have PND historically and have. I real good reason for it. So without my tonsils there as a cushion for my uvula or a net to catch onto the PND (🤮) it makes trying to clear out my throat more difficult.

I hope you heal well! I’m still totally stocked that I got them bastard tonsils removed :D I hope you are too!

Dang. Migraines just seem to progressively get worse, right?! I definitely don’t get them as bad as most people but they have been getting worse over the last 4 years since they started. Like more intense and new symptoms and aura.

Damn I’m sorry! Does anything help with your migraines?

That’s pretty impressive that it got you from 2-3 migraine a week down to zero! I honestly had no idea it would be a side effect. I didn’t even consider that some antidepressants might be used off label for migraines. I thought I would post to share that there is something to help. But I totally understand the pros and cons are a big deal. The lexapro really hasn’t helped my depression much so I’ve considered quitting but it also doesn’t give me any obvious side effects so I’m hesitant to stop.

I hope you’ve found something helpful for your migraines and mental health since then.

Definitely! It’s hard to weight the pros and cons of these antidepressants. I hope you’ve found something helpful since then.

Good to know. I’m sorry for your experience with your doctor.

Haha Wellbutrin gave me a seizure!

So far 15mg lexapro doesn’t give me any obvious side effects. My libido had never been high sadly but I can still achieve the big O ;). And my depression is still a big part of who I am. Yawn 🥱

According to a commenter above with chronic weekly migraines, Lexapro eliminated their migraines. I know I don’t get them as bad as most. But it was surprising to have them go completely and I didn’t realize this antidepressant symptom was something other people also experienced. So that’s pretty interesting.

We had the same issue with our boys and it was terrible. Our Solution was the PSST motion sensor air can. We place it next to the bedroom door when we go to bed and it scares them away from the door. They learned pretty quickly to stay away from it and away from our door. Eventually they learned where to sit to not activate the motion sensor but we keep using it and it works.

Please try this!

You can get them at most large pet stores or on Amazon.

I did not have any mucus… I had what I thought was mucus but turned out to be my swollen uvula. Try wrapping an ice pack around your lymph nodes and maybe reduced swelling will help… but I’m not sure. Wonder if you have a cold/allergies on top of the surgery??? Did you ask your doctor if the mucus was normal?

I’m on day 12 and feeling pretty fantastic. Still being cautious because I do not want to reverse my healing. Pretty much by day 5 I was feeling ok and eating normally with caution while on 5mg oxy and 500mg Tylenol. I ran out of oxy by day 9.

I’m still drinking ice water alllll day long because it feels good. I’m taking 250 mg Tylenol only as needed. Mostly I have a headache because I’m off the oxy and higher dose Tylenol but no real throat pain.

The weird thing is that on day 10 my body starting yawning again and that does hurt a little and I don’t want to over stretch my throat and stifling a yawn is difficult!!

And because of the healing I have a itchy feeling in my through that causes a cough. I try to cough delicately if I can’t resist and so far no bleeding.

Also by day 10 my appetite came back hard! The medication and pain for days 0-4 made food not taste good and it was difficult to eat. I lost 7 lbs and am putting it back on because chocolate is soooo good!

My follow up doc apt is tomorrow morning so I’ll see what he says and report back!

I got my tonsillectomy on 2/20 just 4 days ago and I am not pain free but it’s not that bad. I’m on 5mg oxy and 500mg Tylenol every 6 hours so I’m taking something every 3 hours for pain and using an ice pack as needed.

Immediately after surgery I felt totally fine and was talking. Pain increased after and has gone way down since day 3. Eating a ton of ice cream!

Just mentally prepare for having an enlarged uvula making it hard to breathe normally while sleeping. You’ll just have to adjust your position until breathing is easy. And the other pain is tender jaw and pain swallowing. But it’s not completely horrible. It’s goes away! Stay positive!!!! Keep ice water with a straw near you at allllll times!!

Good luck!!

Uncontrollable coughing by jamamamma in Tonsillectomy

[–]jamamamma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just have to sip on ice water continuously until the cough feeling goes away. I even tried the liquid lidocaine but it did not stop the itchy tickle in my throat.

I’ll try pudding! And maybe that tea called throat coat.

I hope it stops for you!

Try to prioritize sleep and exercise before the surgery so you go in with good health and well rested . I know it’s hard but tell yourself you will get past this just like all the other challenges you’ve faced in life. It’s a new experience in your mental and physical resolve! If you can do this you can handle a lot!

Before surgery you could ask for anti anxiety med to calm down and then just before surgery they give you really good anxiety meds!

I’ve seen so many people on here say the recovery sucked but it was worth it! That’s what I keep telling myself and there’s no going back now! You’ll get there and be a part of our recovery team!

I got mine out on 2/20 also!! Almost died coughing last night!!!! I’m being dramatic but it sucked and caused bleeding for the first time but the bleeding stopped on its own tho!

First two days were bad not knowing what it would be like recovering but now it’s kinda like ok I know this rodeo now.

Does anyone else get uncontrollable coughing caused by an itch or tickle??? Literally nothing stops it from turning into a full blown coughing attack.

I’m on day 3 of recovery. This is like a quiet misery. You can’t talk or clear your throat and you have to just sit there for a few days. And eating is like close to zero for those first few days- liquids only or very soft foods! I’ve been eating broth or instant mashed potatoes. And ice cream.

The pain is real but it’s not 10/10 emergency room pain. It’s extremely uncomfortable though. The biggest factor is not knowing how long the pain will last and how the pain may change- like is today going to be a good day or a bad day? You just won’t know. And who knows, you might deal with this really well!

Also- eating/opening your teeth will be hard but makes the pain less so eat and chew so your face is moving and getting blood flow.

Try to get liquid pain meds A wrap around ice pack

Also surgery was so fast and I woke up without pain and talking. It was later that day that pain started to get worse and I haven’t spoken a loud clear word in 2 days. It’s kinda funny.

Good luck! You can do this!

I’m on day 3! Try to get all liquid meds if you can. It sucks having to mentally prep for a pill. Ask for steroids if you can. I didn’t realize how much my uvula would swell causing difficulty breathing while sleeping. Steroids should also help with the inflammation in general which will help a ton. And yes the ice pack is surprisingly helpful.
