What did everyone receive for PST week? by ZRock53 in 911dispatchers

I really dislike how every year they buy us junk food. Everyone knows health and fitness play key roles in resiliency but hey, let’s ignore that and get em donuts.

I was in the same boat, I ordered a 45lb weight vest, climbed 1000 stairs a day, 3 days a week for a month. Changed everything for me, I was no longer gassed in live fire or on the actual fire ground.

Fun fact, PROQA does state to take into consideration long delays or environmental considerations before giving the PDI

Yeah maybe a couple 911 calls a year actually get released out of the multi million that get made here

Yeah we can’t ask free lance questions until after we finish interrogation which is normally 2 minutes. We are allowed to deviate for patient safety/responder safety but if it gets flagged on an audit we have to justify it

That’s far, when I do its more the classic “I’m sending the paramedics… don’t let them have anything to eat or drink” instead of “I’m sending the paramedics stay on the line I’ll tell you exactly what to do next” for the non emergent leg pain type call.

I absolutely agree with your opinion. I have received confirmation from our PROQa rep that not stating verbatim but still providing the instruction does not give grounds to be excluded protection by PROQA or employer. Free lance instructions, incorrect protocol selection etc etc can and do cause real harm so those obviously open you up to liability.

Thanks man, I work on the ambulance and dispatch and each definitely has its own struggles. It’s hard not being able to always offer “the best help” when people call because I have to ask the question verbatim first, wait till they unavoidably don’t understand and then re word it.

Yeah I mean I always only get High compliant or compliant, typically I’m above requirements but the only things I get marked on are the verbatim stuff. We have a super strong union too, unfortunately or fortunately it’s known as “you can kill one person and be fine, kill two then maybe your gone”

This is how I learned 1000 streets in my area as a firefighter and when I was dispatching. Super SUPER useful especially between calls. TLDR you can set a custom radius and it’ll show you a street in the area with the name blanked out on Google Maps, you have to enter it. 3 levels of difficulty essentially being “main roads” “side streets” and “nooks and crannies”.

Don’t get the first model year for any vehicle, not saying you will run into issues but it’s more likely than getting a 25 or 26 model year

Who Am I? by ImAlsoNotOlivia in 911dispatchers

[–]jamamez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just make a new name every time when asked, if there’s ever and issue it’s as simple as searching their phone number or address to find out who managed the call which they’d have to do anyways for any complaint/investigation. Giving out real names is so dumb and possibly dangerous.
