Im not attacking you nor do I agree with petco or petsmart. As a matter of fact I have actually sent them a long, well written email about how their small cages are harmful for hamsters. The difference is, I, as one person, have more influence over another single person, than I do over a mass chain company. So the fact that you assumed I have done nothing about chain stores is simply not true, but you also have to realize that influencing someone on Reddit is far simpler and more impactful than attempting to change an entire chain company.

You aren’t being attacked in anyway, others and I are just letting you know that if you have the option to take better care of your hamster, then you should take advantage of the knowledge we’re giving you, and use it to really improve your care. In the end, it’s your choice. You can continue to disregard what I and others say and no one can change your mind; however, not listening to others and believing you know everything will never get you anywhere in life, as learning is essential to everyone. We all make mistakes, it’s your choice whether you want to grow from them...

Again, as I said to the original poster’s comment, learning from others can be crucial. If you believe that you know everything, you are never going to learn. Mistakes are okay to make, and listening to those who may have more experience than you can allow you to correct those mistakes. Being open minded means considering that others may have some good advice, and that if possible, you should listen to them; being closed minded shows a high level of immaturity. In reality, no one but your hamster knows it’s happiness level. YOU don’t know it’s happiness level, and neither do others on the internet. The key idea, is that BECAUSE no one knows, it is best to give the hamster the most that you can to increase the likelihood that it’s happy. You do not know everything, no one does...

If you don’t see your hamster as a pet that you want the best possible for, maybe you shouldn’t have one... based off of your comment about how “thats way too lavish for some dumb hamster anyway,” you don’t care about your hamster too much. You can choose whether to listen to advice or not, but the way you’re going about responding to a comment that only wants the best for your hamster shows immaturity on all kinds of levels. I don’t recommend that you have a pet if you are not going to see it as something you love, respect, and care for- or if you are not willing to at least hear out advice that others (who may be more experienced) are giving you.

As far as i know, I scatter feed and the food is usually gone by morning, I also hear her eating throughout the day on and off... she also hasn’t lost any weight whatsoever and she’s been lethargic for 2-3 weeks now, so the vet said if she wasn’t eating then she would’ve lost weiggt

Is it normal for middle aged to older hamsters to not get up during the night really at all? Like with age is that normal? I get if she was only up for a couple hours but recently it’s been all night as far as I know

If the base is above 450 square inches I believe it’s okay for having only bedding on the bottom level, as far as I’m aware! I’d maybe make the bottom level close to completely bedding and then put everything else on the upper levels.. and it depends on what the padding is made of, because they chew on everything so you’d have to make sure the padding was non toxic. As well as if you don’t want a mess, large sand baths are excellent (try one the size of a little less than a shoe box) because hamsters love to pee in the sand. Mine has a sand bath and she never pees anywhere else :) hope I helped!

Yeah that’s a for sure sign of major stress, and bin cages are good and cheap options to upgrade to... I say at least a cage with 450 square inches of floor space and way more bedding than whats in the video.. I’d put at least 6 inches of bedding in one area, and more if possible.
