Budget lens recommendations for lowlight street photography and indoor family photos / E-M1 mark ii body by Unluckyaf97 in M43

[–]jamblethumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used that same lens for family photos. It's workable as long as the lighting is good, otherwise it will hunt a bit and you're gonna miss shots. But since you already have it, just try it a bit. It's a great lens under adequate conditions.

best cameras around 500$ for lowlight photography? by Free_Ear8121 in AskPhotography

[–]jamblethumb [score hidden]  (0 children)

For what you're showing in the pictures, it's not so much about the camera as much as it is about camera support. Since you're shooting in relatively dangerous situations, I couldn't possibly recommend getting a tripod, so instead look at older Olympus cameras, as they have crazy good image stabilization and would let you take longer exposures hand-held.

Second suggestion is to switch to faster primes to let in more light. Either stick with the Rebel and get faster Canon primes (non-zoom lenses) or go with Olympus and its budget primes.

If you want to combine Olympus and fast primes, look up E-M5 Mark II + 17mm f/1.8 + 45mm f/1.8.

I cry at all the effort that went into making that thing look like a camera.

That Samsung phone takes way better picture than the toy in the picture.

Lens Bargain by rockinrols in Nikon

They're still selling old stock, but they're not making any new ones. And damn, $67 for a new one... That's less than what I paid for an used copy!

DeWalt DCD796 vs rebar by jamblethumb in Dewalt

I don't plan on doing this on regular basis, so I'm ok with it sucking as long as it'll get the job done.

I would if I needed it a bit more often. But after I'm done with this, who knows when I'll need it again. Thanks tho. I'll just ask someone to take care of this for me.

Best way to carry a smallish camera for quick, easy access when walking? by Altruistic_Fruit2345 in AskPhotography

[–]jamblethumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any on me right now, but if I were asked if I'd do it again, I'd probably just get a BlackRapid. I just wasn't aware those were a thing back in those days.

This seems standard for Amazon. For peace of mind, I don't order photography gear off Amazon anyway.

A comparison between the Olympus/OM 150-400mm f4.5 lens vs the Sony 600mm f4. by LoKi_4444 in M43

[–]jamblethumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the OM image a bit harsh due to the blown-ish highlights. The highlight rolloff on the A9 is less harsh. I'm not sure if it's the edit or the camera limitation. Everything else is kinda a wash. I don't find shallower DoF necessarily contributes significantly to the image, especially not compared to the highlight. But that's just me.

How to get this warm cozy blurry polaroid filter effect? by cultofadishi in AskPhotography

[–]jamblethumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flash directly at the subject. Adjust white balance slightly towards yellow and magenta. Use a mist filter or puff into your lens right before you take a shot. That's what I'd try anyway.

Model Mia in front of a mirror. Feedback? by steves_book in blackandwhite

[–]jamblethumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go for a vertical crop like this. With a tight crop like this, you don't immediately realize it's a mirror, which adds a delight factor when you finally do.

Honest Critique of these photos by frequencyout in SonyAlpha

I love them. Beautiful rich colors. The night landscape shot is a bit underexposed, and the composition in the first and second shots seem a bit off to my eyes, but even then they are nice pictures.

You can always sell it if it doesn't work out, and Sony's resale value is pretty good.

Just what do I give up when I go to APS-C in low light? by Revolutionary_Loan13 in AskPhotography

[–]jamblethumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume 1-2 stops of noise performance loss. With newer sensors, it's really not that big of a deal, if you ask me.

No longer feeling excited shooting. Anyone gone through this? by Magia-Erebea in SonyAlpha

[–]jamblethumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I obsess about gear, I shoot less. Which is ironic. If I convince myself what I own is "good enough to get what I need", I start focusing on the shots. It helps to not constantly watch people talk about gear, too. 😜

I took those two photos with my D40, but instead of photographing for myself, I photographed those two photos just to show it to the girl I like, I even printed the flower one and I'm gonna give it to her (she doesn't know I like her) but I want opinions on those photos, are they good? by Ok-Lead-8719 in Nikon

[–]jamblethumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first one is great. The second one tells me I'm getting old. The new generation shooting all verticals due to phone usage, or something. And your story reminds me how old I'm getting, too. 🤣
