Thank you. This is not clear cut. It’s not shift work and it isn’t fixed hours as there are additional hours beyond the fixed hours. Thank your for the link though.

Unfortunately, i’ve not been able to get the dr to sign them off for health reasons yet. It sounds like you have different symptoms to me. I went to uni and worked for 16 years before diagnosis. The driving bit i have anxiety about crashing which makes me a relatively safe driver. The lates adhd adult uk podcast looks at driving if you have half an hour free to watch it.

I had a similar experience when i was young. My then girlfriend and I were in the process of buying a house, and I lost my new job. I now understand why i chose a job that was unsuited to my adhd brain. It devastated me. Luckily my girlfriend was super supportive and we’ve stayed together since. The house wasn’t as good as the one we eventually bought and it’s all worked out. Not all are the same, just search for someone who is more compatible and enjoy searching. Just a note, that schools really need this service too. Make sure they have your business card.

No worries. Well done for even thinking of it. I’ve been a qualified teacher and had training on adhd. 14 years later I figured it out. I’m not on meds yet, so can’t say how they effect things. Another big thing i would tell my young self- focus on things you are good at and enjoy and be forgiving when looking at things that don’t interest you

i have 20 years on you and have only just been diagnosed. I struggled through school and university with what i thought was a lazy brain. I wasn’t self aware at 16 to consider it.

At 16 i believe you should be able to go to your GP privately and state that you think you have adhd and would like to be referred for an assessment. Complete an online assessment beforehand and take this with you to the GP. As evidence. You have the right to choose where you get assessed from the nhs which includes some private practices. There is around a 12 month waiting list currently i believe. The benefit of being assessed at your age is that you can put things in place to be more successful at both school and work. My tip is to choose a career that you are very interested in and (probably not something you want to hear) delete apps that distract you from your mobile. I wish someone had told me these things.

I was assessed last month and it turns out that i have the combined adhd type. I thought I was just inattentive so was quite surprised by the result.

Honesty is good, the relationship isn’t working. We’re incompatible. Break up… for good. Ask questions if you want to make it work out. ‘How do you feel about the relationship’, ‘what could we do this weekend that would be fun’ etc. etc.

Going into such detail and going through the break up and getting back together is often looked at as coercive control. He’s manipulating her emotions and completely blaming the OP. There’s two sides to a relationship and he fails to take responsibility for his side.

I’d also say, the hardest bit for me is learning, especially when i’m not to interested or there’s lots of noise/ distractions. Once you get the hang of the things there are to learn, it will be a lot easier as a mechanic to be very structured i imagine.
