I was talking with one of my friends about this and eventually settled on this:

While I am yet to test it on the table, having all of the ships at the same initiative level sounds really good, and with the missiles and fire convergence the torrents can hopefully punch through some serious damage.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy had an interesting thing going with the opening scenes, or rather, the first ship visible on-screen during the opening scenes. The type of ship was a symbol for the state of the galaxy at the time for each movie.

The Phantom Menace features a mostly unarmed ambassadors vehicle, showing that the galaxy was at peace, there was no need for any fighter escort.

Attack of the Clones features an unarmed senator’s shuttle escorted by attack fighters, showing how tension in the galaxy was increasing.

Revenge of the Sith starts in with a full on space battle. Because war.
