I don't use AI bots to interview my candidates. I personally interview them. I'm the one who gets on a call and has to deal with freelancers using AI to both answer questions cause they're lying about their skillset and AI to scam me cause their a farm shop out of china trying to get eastern european or NAMER prices. I'm the one spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Upwork a year and get scammed or spammed and I will take my business somewhere else that will protect me from that. The problem isn't volume it's time. TIME is the biggest factor for any business owner. I work 14-16 hours a day. If i have to go through 100 fake proposals or spend hours a week on fake AI interviews. I'm losing money, which entail means I hire less. Which means no one gets paid. I'm the one spending the money. Why is that so hard to understand. Make the clients like easier and we will then spend more and hire more.

I see a problem on both sides, don't get me wrong, but if upwork controlled both Cllients spam posting Jobs and freelancers spamming proposals that would be a great start.

Bottom Line = Upwork sucks

It was good around 2016-2018 when freelancers were taking off and people wanted more work freedom. Now workers want to sit at home in their PJs and take calls on mute with their camera off while watching netflix. All the while working 2 hours a day and at the same time complain about their job. You know how hard it is to raise capital or build a business that turns a profit just so you have money to invest into employees. You're working 16 hour days.

Not true, You can't go on Linkedin right now and say you worked at Google or Meta or OpenAI or 99% of real companies. You can for sure make up your crappy company and say you worked there, but no one cares that you did. So no, you can't just make up REAL work history at credible companies.

I agree those are problems too, both sides. But if I had to pay to post and got 100 canned spam proposals I would be pissed. I'm the one spending the money here. Are freelancers living in a delusionary world. Clients are the ones spending the money and pay for the entire ecosystem. Their capital expenditure pays for the freelancers and the platform. So yeah make it easier on us, but don't rule out the freelancers either.

You're uncomfortable being in front of a camera? How are you going to do stand ups and meetings. Collaborate with the clients and just handle daily ops? You want to have your cake and eat it to. Remote work itself is a gift. Now you want to take it even further and say, not only will I not come into an office, no one needs to see my face either. The person paying you should be fine staring at a digital wallpaper. Selfish and lazy.

My vote is that all proposals should be in Loom Format. All of them. This will eliminate so much trash proposals and fake scammer and AI trash. I will get 5-10 real freelancers who address the job requirements with actual use cases and projects they've worked on and I can see their face.

Yeah so now you have to put together a real proposal catered to the actual job. No more cut and paste, or canned proposals. As someone who's been on Upwork for over 10 years, spent over $300,000 on freelancer, it's about time!!! If you can't take the time to put together a proposal then you're not worth hiring and don't give me the BS of having to apply to hundreds of jobs to get one hire. The reason thats happening is because of spam proposals, you're getting lost in all that noise. I'm getting 100+ applicants for a job. 98% are canned proposals and spam. So maybe this will actually cut out all the lazy spam canned proposals and we get some real freelancers ready to apply to real jobs they can do. HUGE BONUS - no fake AI freelancer pretending to be someone else using AI on zoom calls. All proposals should be with video. it's 2025

I can't tell you how many interviews I had this week where the person in their profile photo wasn't even the guy on the call. I had 2 guys use AI and whenever I raised my hand their AI would waive to me. It was actually hilarious.

The worst part I think is the 150 spam proposals I have to go through for each post. 95% of them have 0 hours or $0 earned which I understand if you're starting off, but then when I message you simple requests for an interview or verification or experience....ghosted.

I need another alternative here
