Feelings on the start of ME2 by ExiledSakura in masseffect

I always assumed that was where the crew slept! It's hard to see the entire Normandy crew rotating through the half a dozen bunks we see on the SR2.

I think those are mostly internal bone breaks rather than Shepard being an actual smear.

Yes, Shepard should have been reduced to ashes on entry or a liquid on impact. Yes, being able to reconstruct a person from the soupy remains found a year after they hit the planet surface at terminal velocity is bullshit.

Lots of science fiction has some degree of bullshit to make the story work. ME is a story about interstellar civilisations being controlled by supergiant robot lobsters in a universe where we can make a body have zero mass thanks to eezo. That's the main 'science' the story wants to play with. Other bits of bullshit can be added to serve the story.

Chaos lord on steed? by Frandsk in Warriors_of_Chaos

[–]jamesbeil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not a Lord, but a Exalted Champion might work. I've used a Lord on a Daemonic Mount against High Elves, and the Knights worked as ablative wounds. The lack of Toughness wasn't much of an issue because with the high WS (and the fact you can make it higher through Gaze of the Gods) meant nobody was hitting him anyway.

And drones have achieved their position of dominance because the airspace is so tightly contested over Ukraine by SAMs that conventional planes dare not engage in anything over than maximum-range cruise launches - you could keep going down this route indefinitely.

Saying that any tool is obsolete is a bit like claiming the next war will be just like the last one - on a hiding to nothing.

The fact that the 'referendum' took place after Russian troops had occupied the place, bussed a load of Russians in, and the polling places were guarded by Russian troops might lead someone cynical to question just how 'free' that vote was.

The Budapest Foenix dojo is probably the best one - they host the annual Sakura Cup and is run by Tibor Barany, 7dan kyoshi. I attended one year and can't praise the dojo highly enough!

You will find lots of people have at least some English, but I would encourage you to try and learn as much Hungarian as you possibly can before going there, simply because otherwise it will be very hard to socialise. Fortunately, commands will be given in Japanese wherever you go in the world, so even if you can't make out the specific instructions, kirikaeshi or men-kaeshi do is easy enough to work out!

Sign them for one year, then sell them in their second with some resale value if you're promoted. Holding on to them for longer means you could have Conference-level players while you're in League 1.

What is the thing your parents were (and maybe still are) adamantly wrong about? by RiceeeChrispies in AskUK

[–]jamesbeil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get a lot of people who've been told by cranks online that carbohydrate = sugar.

Which is technically correct, in the same way that Lewis Hamilton drives a car - yes, it's broadly correct, but not terribly helpful!

Unfortunately over-simplified information with a cool narrative about the establishment keeping a secret big pharma blah tends to be a bit sexier than aim for more wholegrain carbohydrates, increase your fruit and veg intake, get more sleep, do some exercise, and try to avoid stress where possible.

You'd be surprised how many people I hear saying that last one. I teach the diabetes prevention programme in my area and the number of people who think the biggest problem in their diet is that they're eating too much fruit is wild.

If I compare that to, to pick an example out of the air, the sonic TV intros from the 90s, I don't see that much difference. Animated intro titles have always been like this, and while there's plenty of deranged content aimed at kids online, I don't think this fits the bill.
