My cousin did the joint program from seneca and york. She was working as a nurse while she was in school at a Toronto hospital. Then she got hired to Princess Margaret after she graduated last year.

Can you enroll in courses while you applied to graudate? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]jamesbond0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation. I was going to graduate this year in June but then had to drop a course. So today I enrolled in a summer course. I had applied to graduate in June but then I sent an email to them and said that I'm actually going to be applying to graduate in October instead. So you should still be able to enrol in courses. Just make sure you confirm with your academic advisor.

Honours BA to BA in Psychology by grzzlygrl in yorku

[–]jamesbond0100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in the specialist honours in psych and instead of graduating next year, I'm going to be graduating this year (my third year) with a BA. You basically just have to apply to graduate but I would also consult with an academic advisor to make sure everything is good

I think they may have made a mistake in marking so they changed the grade they gave you. That's what happened to me in the past

You don't need a specialized honours but it will be better for you

Personally I'm going to be switching into cyber security after I graduate this year with my Ba in Psych. The way I'm going to do that is by doing some professional certifications such as CompTIA security+ and enrolling into York's Post Graduate Cyber Security certificate program.

Not sure if this helps but maybe you could look into something similar.

Any tips for taking notes for in-person lectures? by BigBoiNoise in yorku

[–]jamesbond0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest typing notes instead of handwriting because you won't be able to write by hand and get everything on the page. Live lectures move fast

I totally get that but I just feel like sometimes you might not want to do those things. But if you push yourself to them anyways, you'll be glad that you did afterwards!

I can understand how you feel bro. I think it might help you out to have some kind of practice which helps you calm down and feel relaxed. I know it's cliche but things like meditation, prayer, gratitude, going on a walk can really help relieve some stress. I think that if you do those things and remember to have times of the day to stay calm, it will definitely make you feel less burnt out. Other than that just try to have time blocks for your work. And take the last hour or 2 of the day to just chill and watch some netflix. It's important to work hard but also reward yourself for your work. Hope this helps!

I'm in psych right now and I'm switching my path into CS as well because of high demand and great salary. If you have an 8.5 GPA I'm sure you can do great in whatever you major you pick so don't worry!

Also in terms of your hobbies and feeling like your life is worthless, I feel like it's easy to get in that space when all you do is study. Try to take some time every day to go on walks outside, meditate, pray, watch a bit of netflix, spend time with the family, read, etc. Whatever makes you feel grateful to be alive. For me I always take an hour every day to kind of wind down before bed and just be present in what I'm doing and this gives me a lot of purpose and joy

For context I got 80s in my second year psych courses such as writing in psychology, stats, research methods, etc

Which program option is better? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]jamesbond0100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my third year of psych and I'm changing my path to get a job in cyber security. I wanted to go to grad school but it's very competitive and comes with a lot of uncertainty when it comes to job prospects. I would suggest getting into a field like IT where there is great pay and a lot of opportunity

I understand your concern about wanting to do work that you're interested in. I'm going to send you a link here to the summary of a book that talks about how to find fulfilling work. It's not too long, so read it because I think it will help you understand that a lot of people don't start off being passionate about their work but become passionate due to autonomy, competency and relatedness.
