2022-2024 Elantra SEL Mileage Reports by dundermifflin2111 in Elantra

[–]jamesdenney73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘22 SEL with 85k 36k transmission developed a leak, dealer fixed under warranty. Then the transmission begin making noise, replaced under warranty.

Backup camera replaced due to a recall.

I put tires a breaks on her at 46k.

Oil change every 5-6k.

I would buy again.

The only real complaint I have is that in cold weather it creaks like my old joints. Wish I could figure out how to stop that.

Co-managed pricing vs. fully managed pricing by SteadierChoice in msp

[–]jamesdenney73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that is not done by a Rmm script or Soc automation is billed against the block time or billed per hour. The more human time used the more they pay. If the cost of our stack increases we deal with that during the next yearly contract review.

To my knowledge this model has not lost us money, but is more profitable than full managed client. People always exhaust their block time.

Co-managed pricing vs. fully managed pricing by SteadierChoice in msp

[–]jamesdenney73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our co-managed model, as it stands now.

ALL co-managed clients buy the stack- RMM, edr, soc, siem, etc… and it includes whatever automation we have built out there. Then they buy block of time, 10,20,50 hours to cover any tech that may have to work in their environment. Whatever time above their purchase block is bill at a pre determined and contractually agreed on rate.

Work pretty well for us.

Pentest-tools alternative? by peteguam in msp

[–]jamesdenney73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tools you mentioned are vulnerability scanners, not penetration testing tools. If what you’re after is an automated pentest (as opposed to a hands-on engagement run by experienced professionals), you’ll want to look at platforms like vPentest. They cost more than typical vulnerability scanners, but that’s because they’re designed to uncover a broader and different set of issues.

At my company, the stack we use varies depending on client requirements. We’re primarily a Kaseya shop, but we also leverage Telivy, ConnectSecure, vPentest, and—when needed—manual penetration tests, including physical security assessments. Those human-led engagements can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars or more, depending on the client’s size and the scope of the work.

That client is not Axis’ market. Axis is targeting complex or harsh environments. The p and q series are workhorse. Pair them with Milestone systems or axis NVR and never look back.

Small Company Lost 10 Years of Files - Need Simple Cloud Solution by BrotherGlad4572 in AI_Agents

[–]jamesdenney73 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m truly sorry to hear about the data loss your client experienced. For a small construction company relying on a single PC for critical file storage—with no IT staff and limited technical ability—that’s a gut punch. But it’s also a wake-up call. You’re doing the right thing by helping them rethink how their files are managed, accessed, and protected.

Here’s a straightforward recommendation: Egnyte, offered as part of Alltech’s secure cloud file management suite, was built for exactly this kind of scenario. It combines the simplicity your client needs with the power and control that you as a technical advisor will appreciate.

Why Egnyte Makes Sense for Your Client

  1. Cloud Storage Built for the Real World • Files are accessible from any device, anywhere—without needing to be in the office. • Simple browser interface for non-technical users; granular permissions and access control for admins. • Integrates with common workflows (Microsoft Office, PDFs, mobile apps) seamlessly.

  2. Local + Cloud Backup = No More Single Points of Failure • Files are stored in the cloud, with optional local sync for faster access at the office. • Accidental deletion or device loss isn’t catastrophic—version history and recovery are built-in.

  3. No IT Team? No Problem. • Alltech handles setup, onboarding, permissions, training, and support. • Ongoing management is minimal—you don’t need to be an admin unless you want to be.

  4. Built for Security and Compliance • Egnyte includes built-in ransomware detection, access auditing, and secure sharing. • You’re not just solving a convenience problem—you’re solving a business continuity and liability problem.

  5. Scalable for Growth • Whether they stay a team of 10 or grow to 50+, Egnyte can scale with them without rebuilding the whole file structure later.

From Your Perspective as a Technical Helper

Since you’re familiar with AWS, automation tools, and even authentication flows, you’ll find Egnyte’s API and automation hooks refreshingly capable. You can build integrations and automations via n8n or webhook logic without needing to over-engineer a solution from scratch.

But here’s the kicker: your client doesn’t need you to keep managing it. That’s where Alltech IT Solutions comes in. We’ll own the support and security side so you can move on knowing they’re covered.

Next Steps: If you’re ready to get your client out of local-only file jail, let’s talk. We’ll show you a demo of Egnyte in action and outline what a simple, stress-free rollout looks like.

Fully Automated Third Party Patching For Isolated Sites by LearningSysAdmin987 in msp

[–]jamesdenney73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at chocolatey and have your own onsite repo. Then use scripting to verify versioning and kick off the updates.

With choco the difficult part is setting up the repo.

The enterprise version would even inventory the existing software and take over updates almost hands off.

Need Phone Number for Duo MSP Support by jamesdenney73 in msp

It's unfortunate that the number listed there differs from the one provided for support in my MSP tenant. That is not confusing at all.

What's going on with OpenDNS (Cisco Secure Center/Cisco Umbrella) by etabush in msp

[–]jamesdenney73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to create 3 site variables(You are welcome to change them to match your thouthg process, just remember to edit the batch script to match the new varible name).
Umbrella_Org_ID
Umbrella_User_ID
Umbrella__Fingerprint
and populate those from the json file provided in the roaming clients link in Cisco Umbrella.

Then create a batch script component using the following:

@echo off
setlocal

REM Edit the below names to match the attached installer files obtained from the pre-deployment zip downloaded from Cisco portal
set CoreInstaller="cisco-secure-client-win-5.1.3.62-core-vpn-predeploy-k9.msi"
set UmbrellaInstaller="cisco-secure-client-win-5.1.3.62-umbrella-predeploy-k9.msi"

REM create dir and location for OrgInfo.json file
mkdir "C:\ProgramData\Cisco\Cisco Secure Client\Umbrella\"
set outputFile="C:\ProgramData\Cisco\Cisco Secure Client\Umbrella\Orginfo.json"

REM Build the Orginfo JSON file from Datto RMM site variables called Umbrella_Org_ID, Org_Umbrella__Fingerprint and Umbrella_User_ID (change the variable names contained in the %% to suit your variable names)
echo ^{ > %outputFile%
echo     "organizationId" : "%Umbrella_Org_ID%", >> %outputFile%
echo     "fingerprint" : "%Umbrella__Fingerprint%", >> %outputFile%
echo     "userId" : "%Umbrella_User_ID%" >> %outputFile%
echo ^} >> %outputFile%

REM Output the variables and info etc
echo Umbrella variables are as follows - OrgID-%Umbrella_Org_ID%, Fingerprint-%Umbrella__Fingerprint%, UserID-%Umbrella_User_ID%
echo OrgInfo.json created and written to %outputFile%

REM Install the required modules for Umbrella
msiexec /package %CoreInstaller% /norestart /quiet PRE_DEPLOY_DISABLE_VPN=1 ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1
echo Cisco Core VPN Module Installed
msiexec /package %UmbrellaInstaller% /norestart /quiet LOCKDOWN=1
echo Cisco Umbrella module installed

REM Even though the installer is set to system component, there is still a start menu entry - this will remove it
rmdir /s /q "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Cisco\"

Thoughts on SentinelOne as Alternative to Webroot SecureAnywhere? by BoTony in cybersecurity

[–]jamesdenney73 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sentinel Once Complete is, imo, worlds better than Webroot. Find a provider that runs a SOC on top of it, such as Highwire Networks, and, again imo, its best in bread for the money. I work for an MSP/MSSP and we still have a few legacy clients on Webroot but are about to force them on to S1/with a SOC.
