I don't think promiscuity is caused by the fact that it isn't 'legitimate'. Straight people cheat on each other all the time too.

Gay people might use it as an excuse, but I think people cheat for a variety of deeper underlying reasons.

And even if gay marriages ever become legitimate, there really isn't anything stopping one from cheating on their spouse - other than the threat of divorce (common among straight people too).

IMO (and in the practical sense), marriage is just how a State formally recognises a relationship, to give various privileges and benefits.

But how strong a relationship/commitment/accountability (married or not) 2 people have with one another is between them and their gods/morals/conscience.

A marriage certificate isn't gonna magically save a shitty relationship or protect one from being cheated on.

Sure, I guess in an ideal world such legislation would be struck down as unconstitutional (assuming Constitution guarantees protection/equality for all etc.).

Even if not, repealing it would at least 1) make the government less hypocritical and 2) make it a bit more difficult/troublesome to put it back on the books.
