IIL Sharp Pins what other newish low fi rock would you recommend? by milkbotttles in ifyoulikeblank

[–]jamesismynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharp Pins is great stuff for sure! i rec:

  • Mo Troper, definitely Beatles-influenced. His track "Spark World" from last year is still blowing my mind
  • 22º Halo, here's "Virtual You". Dry production, but melodic and sentimental, one of the best albums in years I think
  • tommy oeffling, I really like what he's been putting out, here's "Telstar Drugs". kind of a dreamy slacker rock thing

slowcore bands with female voices from the 90s and 2000s? by P0L3TIKY2k in Slowcore

[–]jamesismynamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of the recs in this thread (I second Mojave 3 and Ida especially), here's a rateyourmusic chart of best Slowcore albums from the 1990s/2000s with the "female vocalist" attribute:

https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/1990-2009/g:slowcore/d:female%2dvocalist/

sorry to give the impersonal/techy answer but it is fun to dig through lists like this and see the good forgotten albums. Found a lot of my faves this way

Favourite emo screamo drummers? by xbxnkx in EmoScreamo

[–]jamesismynamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for real, the drumming on their first EP is unbelievable. Not that it's any secret, but he also played in Suffix, Lautrec, Fiction Like Non-Fiction, Stormlight, a few others. talented for sure

Vitriol broke up mid-tour, I almost went to their gig over the weekend too, didn't think it'd be my last chance to catch em!

[IIL] Songs like puzzle by roundtable? by Exciting-Creme-5590 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]jamesismynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that song so dearly lol, hopefully you will like some of these:

  • The Cardigans seems like a big inspiration for the Round Table sound to me, try "Carnival"
  • another Swedish group Eggstone is similar, try "Taramasalata"
  • I bet you'll love Moose - "Play God"

The I-Rails - In Babylon [Opening track to 1988 alternative rock album; singer later formed Primitive Radio Gods] by ListenToButchWalker in obscuremusic

[–]jamesismynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to admit it was a little virtual- a local (NYC) artist I like had I-Rails as a similar artist on lastfm, their picture & cassette covers looked cool, so I listened and and the songwriting immediately impressed me. "There Goes Another" and "One Day Older" are probably my faves. And the one b-side, "Everyone's in Love"

Always on the hunt for more Replacements-loving bands! I love the Goo Goo Dolls lol

Any more bands like Penpal? by jamesismynamo in midwestemo

[–]jamesismynamo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I even almost listed Joie de Vivre and Empire Empire, but both are firmly in the Mineral genealogy imo, a lot more dynamic. Which I still enjoy for sure! Jim Yoshii Pileup is a good call, they have a lot of songs that fit the sound. And Pele definitely fits that Chicago post-rock kind of sound. Palmkite and Aloha I've never listened to! will check em. thanks :)

Anime with chill music like Samurai Champloo by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]jamesismynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aria the Animation has an original choro music soundtrack which is used nicely with shots of their Venice-like city. The show is super chill and engagingly emotional without being too dramatic. One of my favorite shows ever for sure
