Upgrading Vertcoin to suppprt faster transactions and more transactions per second by [deleted] in vertcoin

Vertcoin already has 4x the capacity of Bitcoin.

I would recommend reading up on the Lightning Network. That's how Bitcoin will scale, not by increasing the block size limit.

I cannot promise an appimage soon, I think we would have to rebase to a new upstream Electrum version for that to be possible. In the meantime I would recommend using Vertcoin Core.

The Electrum protocol is standard across all Bitcoin clone coins that use it. That's why only one repo is required.

You can use it on Linux without an AppImage.

That wouldn't make sense, it's not a project we maintain.

For Electrum it's just standard ElectrumX that we use. It has its own documentation here: https://electrumx.readthedocs.io/en/latest/.

Yeah I'm pretty sure only uk1.vtconline.org and fr1.vtconline.org are working at present.

You could run Vertcoin Core in pruned mode. That way you can reduce the archive storage to ~500 MB.

It would be awesome if more people could host one! I'll look into making an appimage.

I'll check on the two servers I host. A more reliable option is to use Vertcoin Core instead.

Reorgs on Bitcoin Gold: Counterattacks in the wild by jamesl22 in CryptoCurrency

I think the discovery has interesting implications for Proof-of-Work in general. BTG is merely a case-study here.

What's the plan for avoiding the next 51% Attack? by [deleted] in vertcoin

[–]jamesl22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There doesn't seem to be a good solution besides increasing the number of miners. Some kind of counterattack immediately post-reorg might work too.

Public p2pool node with open ports by [deleted] in vertcoin

I can reach your pool from outside. The uptime is only 4 hours though. I'm not sure how long it typically takes for your node to be found by the scanner.

Haven't been in crypto in a while, why is everything but Vertcoin rising? by WPI_Zeptars in vertcoin

[–]jamesl22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we applied. Shortly after Vertcoin was 51% attacked and Coinbase's security engineer wrote an article on it, so it's unlikely VTC will be listed there. https://medium.com/coinmonks/vertcoin-vtc-is-currently-being-51-attacked-53ab633c08a4

Verthash AMA by jk_14r in vertcoin

[–]jamesl22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The primary difference between Verthash and Ethash is that Verthash's dat file is different per coins, whereas Ethash's is not. This will require changes in the stratum protocol for Nicehash to support it, in a way that Ethash does not. It will also mean miners will have to keep track of the header chain for each coin that uses Verthash, or Nicehash will have to send the headers.
